What a unique concept, a coffee and pastry shop inside a bike shop. Open concept, friendly service, reasonable prices, delicious pastries ( I tried 5 different ones from the nutty sticky bun to the savory cheese and chives pastry), tasty coffee with latte art ( I do appreciate that), additionally fun decorative figurines and box heads around counter…details count 😉. They also have handcrafted ice cream , will try another time. Highly recommend to stop by give this place a try if you are in the area.

Such a good espresso. It can be a little slow to get your coffee because there is a singular person behind the counter taking orders and preparing all the coffee. There is one main human who I see most morning. They are very nice and chatty and we have developed a nice rapport.
I have learned that this is a family business where a lot of various family members help out. Which is really cool. It’s a bike shops but they take their coffee SERIOUSLY.
They aren’t open as early as other shops so I do have to leave work for a coffee break to get my americano or drip coffee but honestly it’s worth it!

Cool space but I didnt feel welcomed at all. Was a very dry experience. And the chai was not good. Just not the flavor of a chai. And I think they forgot my shot of espresso. Definitely won’t be back.

One of the best flat whites in the neighborhood! ☕️ Not every coffee shop makes a proper flat white or even knows what it is, but this place does it right. My husband’s a big fan of their cold brew too. We absolutely love it and recommend it to everyone!

I don't live in the area, and I was struggling to find a good coffee spot after an event nearby. I saw this place has good reviews, but was skeptical because it was in a bike shop!?
Anyway, I got desperate and stopped by to find out how wrong I was. They make good coffee. I had a small pastry to go with it. The staff was friendly and started on my order right away. I remember sitting in that bike shop, chewing on my snack, and sipping my coffee, looking insignificant from the outside, but feeling quite happy and content inside.
Need coffee? Don't want to drive far? Stop by Proteus Brews. You won't regret it.

Very cool place! On the cafe side, I haven't had food there but the drinks are *fantastic* and the servers are stellar! Very engaging and helpful!
The shop side matches perfectly - I've been in a few times now having just pulled my old bike out of storage, and they did an easy checkup, let me know what needed to be fixed immediately for riding, and got me squared away in time for DC's Bike to Work day! I'm happy that this is my local bike shop and coffee stop!
