Overall my experience is always great when I come here for coffee and a pastry on the weekends.
My only gripe is that one of the baristas, after receiving payment and before providing any level of service, always makes sure to say "tip us if you'd like". Ordinarily that wouldn't bother me but when those are pretty much the only words you say to me after receiving my payment- No, "have a nice day", "thank you for your business", or "hope you enjoy", etc. - it really makes me wonder what I'm tipping you for.
Otherwise, the place is great and Annie, who I presume is the owner, is a real gem of person.

I stopped in to Proteus Brews by chance as I happened to be driving by after a work program. I am so happy I did, absolutely wonderful people working behind the counter. It is in a bike store which makes the atmosphere feel open and warm yet not crowded. The bakery items all looked amazing, but the cheese Danish I consumed was so delightful I heavily debating getting another. They have local coffee beans for purchase and a healthy selection. The iced Americano is easily one of the best I have ever had. It's smooth, robust and not overwhelming. They take their time and show care in all aspects at Proteus Brews. This is going to be a go to stop for me in the College Park area.

I’m fairly new to road biking and had just bought a new to me road bike from FB Marketplace. I had sent an email through their contact form which Laurie answered and gave me enough reason to bring my bike to Proteus. I brought my bike in this past Saturday. The first person that greeted me was Paul. He checked over my bike and let me know that my bike was really in great shape and made a few minor adjustments that he didn’t charge me for. He replaced my seat and clipless pedals with flat pedals.
Literally everyone in that shop made me feel comfortable and welcome. Laurie, Jeff, Duncan, Andy, Paul, yall are amazing and made me feel at home. I live in DC, but Proteus is my go to bike shop now!

I always love a good coffee shop that no one really knows about but has great service and offerings. I got an apple walnut muffin and a chai with almond milk; both were excellent! I would have gotten coffee if I hadn't already had a cup today, but I could tell it would have been great as well.

This is basically a central community meeting place. I love it here. Lively, delicious coffee, really great pastries. Good barista. Love the atmosphere of the bike shop. This place warms my heart.
