Fantastic spot for sushi in Columbia. Was not expecting much from a mall restaurant but was pleasantly surprised.
The oysters were a delight, the sashimi was very fresh, and the sushi rolls we ordered were delicious. Service was fast and attentive. Great quality for price. Will definitely be back.

I am so glad we came here. The food was sooo good. Very flavorful, yet not pungent. Our server was great. Will definitely come back next time I'm in the area.

Lovely little place. Very very chic. Kids and in-laws enjoyed their Chinese food. Wife and I didn't enjoy the sushi so much. Great fish-to-rice day ratio and very fresh...but so flavorless. Probably the blandest sushi we've ever had. Spicy tuna wasn't spicy at all. The dynamite roll says it has spicy sauce... maybe they forgot it? Totally tasteless. And my wife got a rather large bone in a piece of white fish. I honestly can't believe a proper sushi chef would allow this to happen. Add to that they don't really have a full bar that can make more than a few select cocktails.... and the execution really falls down here. Our server was quite polite but not particularly attentive or well trained and made several mistakes. Go and enjoy the standard Chinese fare in a fun setting, but don't challenge them to make good sushi or craft cocktails.... you'll leave disappointed like we did. We expect better at those fancy Columbia Town Center prices.

The sushi and sashimi were fresh and flavorful! The portion size was smaller than expected for what was supposed to be two servings.

The quality of this food is amazing, and the cocktails and selection of sakes and whiskeys is unmatched, but be prepared to spend quite a bit on a full dinner.

Awesome fish quality without breaking the bank. Their happy hour prices are amazing deals, but their normal prices are still very fair and affordable.

Came last week to celebrate a birthday. Upon making our reservation, our host, Eileen, offered the option to decorate our table to make the night more special. It was beautifully and elegantly curated - truly exceeded all of our expectations!
Not only was the service before entering amazing, but the food and drinks were fresh and delicious. I love that they had a variety of different fish to try, especially in the Takumi Supreme Sashimi. It’s great for those who love to try new things. The owner even gave us a crab dish to try at the end which was delightful and refreshing.
After dinner, they presented the cake we brought in and used their own sparkler candles which truly elevated the end of our celebration!
Seriously can’t express how grateful and pleased we are with the service in making this night memorable! Highly recommend for anyone interested in some great food or a special event!

I don't think the chef is an expert on Japanese food. The food tasted fine but definitely not what it should be. Assorted sushi had some sort of sauce poured all over it, like soy sauce all over tuna and shiromi. That is not how sushi should be prepared or served. Almost made me pause before eating. Wasn't sure if the fish was not fresh enough and that's why they tried to cover it up with sauce? or does the chef just not know how to prepare sushi?
So bizarre. Tonkotsu ramen had donkatsu on it. haha. It tasted fine but Tonkotsu is NOT donkatsu. Not the same. The restaurant was clean and the servers were nice but the restaurant smelled like Chinese food and fried food. I like Chinese food but just want to get the type of food that I expect from what they claim to be - Japanese food from Japanese restaurant and Chinese food from Chinese restaurant. I will not be returning here to get Japanese food.

The ramen here is excellent and the selection of sushi, and other dishes never disappoints. All the employees and managers we've interacted with are super nice and attentive. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Columbia!

My third stop this month, comparing sushi spots in central Maryland. There's nothing wrong with the menu, lighting, seating or general ambiance. There is a big problem with portion sizing on their sushi offerings: specifically the Chirashi Don. Typically this dish is comprised of several cuts of various sashimi (15 at Takumi) over seasoned rice, accompanied by some pickled veggies or mushrooms. Takumi, fails (epically) here, by providing pieces of fish that are the length and width typical of nigiri cuts, but are half the thickness! It's important to note that nigiri is usually half the thickness of a sashimi portion, so what you get here is a $45 plate (Bara Chirashi-Don) of half sized nigiri over decent, but standard sushi rice.
Don't buy this! And if the remainder of the nigiri and sashimi looks this small, don't get sushi at all - a management decision on portion size is taking advantage of you and making the sushi chefs look unprofessional.
