Each time I have gone to the new location there has been a problem with the food. The first visit the cabbage was god tasting awful, it was soggy and not seasoned. The second time the fish platter I ordered was tasteless and the skin on the fish was damp and rubbery also under seasoned. You will think people of african american descent will no how to prepare soul food dishes. The only thing that taste half way decent was the mac and cheese, but even this was a bit stiff. Its Friday now and I want fish...but its a no for me.

I went there for the first time today. I ordered a barbecue sandwich and it tasted just like Eastern NC barbecue. I will definitely be going back again. The sandwich was delicious.

I wandered in on a Thursday evening and was immediately greeted by a welcoming staff member, who asked me if I wanted to dine in or takeout -I opted for takeout, and he directed me to the takeout area. This was my first time ordering from Ella Ray’s, and there were several main options to choose from-smothered baked chicken, braised turkey legs, ox tail, whitening, catfish, and of course a variety of different sides -collard greens, macaroni and cheese, southern yams, green beans -I ordered the catfish (which was made to order, and was a short four-minute wait). For my sides, I ordered the cheesy macaroni and cheese and the cabbage and collard green-combo (this was permissible and they stated that people do this often-this is a better value :)). The yams looked too delicious to pass on, so I ordered a small side. Further, I noticed an array of homemade slices of cake; they looked yummy as well, but I passed on dessert. Everyone was friendly and helpful; while checking out, the cashier asked if I’d like any condiments, and of course, I wanted some, so she added a few packets of Texas Pete and tartar sauces to my bag.
Don’t let appearances fool you—the decor may be dated, but the flavor and nostalgia of a relative’s cooking is definitely there! I will return to try the ox tail and a slice of cake :)

Terrible experience. Customer service was unprofessional and very disrespectful from the cashier. Waited at least 30 minutes for my order. Pork chops were dry and hard. Will never go there again!!!!

We ordered takeout. NEVER AGAIN. The greens are HORRIBLE. They have a bitter and soicy taste to them. Complete disappointment. The meatloaf were these thin slices. If I wasnt hungry, I wouldnt have even put my fork in it from how it looked. The mac and cheese is dry. Catfish is salty. Even the juice we got wasnt all that great.

I recently ordered from here and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. I ordered the oxtails, and they were terrible. The meat was overwhelmingly fatty, with more fat than actual meat in every piece. It honestly tasted like it had been prepared months ago. I also ordered the fried whiting, which was just okay—not great, but not terrible either. The sides were the only redeeming part of the meal; they were good. Overall, I was really let down by the oxtails and the whiting. Would not recommend based on this experience.
