Terrible experience. Untrained service staff Its like nobody cares.
The food used to be very good, but last nights experience leaves a lot to be desired in that area as well.
A man was playing the piano. Sounded like the same thing over and over and was way too loud.
This buisness will not last.
My first visit was disappointing. Noise, service, food JUST average.
Turned out my Salmon wasn’t salmon after all I was served paper thin Tilapia, the Capers looked like Rabbit Turds. The sauce was Luke warm, cold by the time I was half way thru the meal.
Outstanding food, drink and desserts. Exceptional service and staff. The best French food I’ve had since going to Paris.

Laperaux, The Journeymanchef's French Bistro continues to offer an exceptional dining experience in Germantown, Maryland. The ambiance remains warm and inviting, reminiscent of Lyon, France, with a charming and antique atmosphere that feels like stepping into a cozy European bistro. Gentle entertainment on select evenings adds to the allure. The service is phenomenal, with attentive and welcoming staff who cater to each guest's needs. The food is consistently delicious, featuring standout dishes like Scallops/St Jaques, Steak au Poivre, and the rich and comforting French onion soup, all cooked to perfection. The frites are a highlight, and the desserts, particularly the chocolate mousse, are not to be missed.
Chef Gregory Webb crafts a menu that feels both classic and personal. Open since early 2023, this intimate spot balances elegance with a welcoming atmosphere, offering a taste of France through meticulously prepared dishes. The meal at Laperaux begins with freshly baked French bread, warm and crusty, paired with whipped herbed butter. The pork belly arrives with a deep, savory red wine demi-glace, and the duck leg confit is a masterclass in technique, slow-cooked for six hours in its own fat, then pan-fried for a crisp skin. The herb-crusted prime rib pairs beautifully with creamy garlic spinach, while the Coquilles St. Jacques brings a luxurious richness that feels balanced.
Laperaux is more than just a restaurant; it's an experience. The main dining room offers a view of the open kitchen, adding a bit of theater to the meal. The outdoor patio is perfect for a relaxed evening. On weekends, live instrumental music elevates the ambiance, making the bistro feel like a small corner of Paris. Since its opening, Laperaux has attracted a loyal following, with diners coming from across the region to savor its authentic French flavors. The thoughtful gestures, like complimentary champagne for special occasions, further enhance the experience, making every visit memorable.
