I recently visited Hook and Reel with my partner, and it was quite an experience— not a pleasant one. From the moment we walked in, we were nicely greeted by the owner but that didn’t last long. His constant observation of both customers and staff created an uncomfortable atmosphere that made it hard to relax.
The service was lacking in basic hospitality - we received just enough gloves for our table, leaving us wanting more. The wait for my margarita felt unnecessarily long, and just as we were somewhat finishing up, our waitress brought the check. It felt rushed and inconsiderate, especially since I hadn’t even received my drink yet.
When I accidentally ripped my gloves and requested a new pair, the waitress seemed hesitant, laying them down while glancing at the owner, which only reinforced the feeling of being watched. The whole experience felt overly controlled and micro-managed, which detracted from what should have been an enjoyable outing.
- Overall, This Hook and Reel location needs to find a better balance between management and customer experience. I won’t be rushing back anytime soon.
