My husband and I booked a room here for our anniversary getaway. We’ve been coming to OC for years and have stayed at more than 12 properties/condos on the boardwalk. I’ll say we were pleasantly surprised with the Breakers, especially considering the price. Our room (500) was among the cleanest of ANY property we’ve stayed at on the boardwalk, including some very pricey hotels. The lobby and pools were very clean and well kept; the property was secure. The decor was a little dated and the beds were a little more firm than we’d like but overall we were very, very pleased. Front desk staff was friendly at check in and housekeeping kept up with our room. It was quiet and parking was not an issue. We had a room with a side view but Next time I’d try an oceanfront; that’s just our preference. We will definitely return to the Breakers and I’ll recommend to our friends and family for a budget friendly, clean hotel with an awesome location.
The only reason I would stay here again is convenience because my family members have stayed here every year for years now… and it’s nice to be in the same hotel but the owner of this hotel is super unpleasant to encounter. She has a rude demeanor. You would think working in hospitality she would have a more professional and pleasant attitude. After our first night we came back from breakfast and there were HUNDREDS of ants all over our one bed. I called to the front desk and she (later realizing it was the owner) was so short with me and essentially hung up on me. She sent the house keeper (the ONLY one working) and made it out to be her problem. I went to the front desk to see if we could find a solution and she was very aggressive saying she already sent the house keeper up to the room so I needed to go back up there. A service man came up with bug spray, and said he could spray the room and offered us a room key to a different room saying we could move to that room or come back to this one after it’s been sprayed. The new room had a terrible musky smell but at least it didn’t have ants.. I can’t imagine going back in that room bc the hallway smelled like ant spray for the rest of our trip I can’t imagine how it smelled in the actual room. We ended up staying an extra night to spend more time with our family but every encounter I had with the owner was so uncomfortable, I had to go get my key reactivated and she was so snarky with her comments, it was super hard to bite my tongue but she already seemed so miserable I’d hate to give her a reason to be even worse to her employees or anyone else staying there … The day we got there someone’s child pooped in the pool, and she sent an employee down to make sure our child was wearing a swimmy which of course she was but it seemed very accusatory. My baby wasn’t even in the pool the day someone else’s pooped in it, which would have been obvious if they were actually watching the cameras.. It’s unfortunate because if it had a more pleasant owner the hotel itself would be nice. I’m sure someone with decency would be proactive about the ant problem and that hopefully wouldn’t be an ongoing issue. The house keeper was very pleasant though. If the owner was nicer maybe she would have more than one to work for her. Anyways. Stay at your own risk and hope the owner woke up on the nicer side of her bed on the days you have to interact with her.
A good place for a drink if you are staying at the hotel but very low key.
Houston guy here. I've been going to this location for 20 years. The staff is fantastic. The food is awesome and always hot. Not to mention the awesome view of the ocean
The hotel was excellent for our five night stay. We stayed on the 3rd st side. Please be aware boardwalk performers can be out until 1 AM. There was a karaoke performer one night. This did not effect us but those with oceanfront rooms were complaining when we saw them in the hall.
We stayed at the Breakers Hotel in July, 2022. Our room had a queen bed, older microwave and refrigerator. Decor is dated, but the room and hotel are clean. The room has a step out balcony about 3 feet wide and 7 feet long. Only enough room for one chair to sit on. We had a problem with our room safe one night. Staff responded, but acted annoyed. Problem was resolved. The entrance to the hotel is locked from 2 am to 6 am each day for security. There is a small , nice pool on the 4th floor. The hotel itself was quiet. Only noise was from the nearby boardwalk and trucks unloading on 3rd street every day for boardwalk businesses. Bed was comfortable. Staff not overly friendly.
I did not have a good experience with the bartender Cristina C. Unfortunately, she was extremely unprofessional. She did not offer us menus and when I asked her for a drink she said " it will be a while". In the meantime, if another server asked her a drink to take outside, she would do it right away. I was a regular customer . The bartender Amanda is great. She is very attentive, polite, professional, and she make great cocktails, however, Cristina C. was one of the worst serves I've met. She was also rude with the couple near us, to the point I decided to offer them a menu myself. When Dr. Berger owned the Clarion, you would never see a bartender ignoring customers, however, checking frequently the messages on her phone. Awful experience
Love this Hotel. Great friendly staff. Very clean. Plus doesn’t allow pets?. My family had an amazing 4 nights here. They also have a indoor pool. Which our kids had so much fun in after a day in the sun. Plus a Dough Roller pizza restaurant attached at the boardwalk. Can’t wait for our next stay.
The Breakers is like a home away from home. Very clean and comfortable. The staff is great. They've become like family after all the years we've been going there. Very friendly. The Hotel is in a great spot. Dough Roller Restaurant is below the Hotel and Dunkin Donuts is less than a block away. I would 100% recommend The Breakers Hotel!!!!!!! Keep up the good work!
We went in the office season for lunch so we were the only table. The bartender was extremely friendly and attentive. Food was average with the burgers well over cooked. I got rare and it came it well done. The bartender said that it is normal for their cooks.
Restaurantji Recommends
Good size menu but way over priced - I know it's a resort but $17 for shrimp cocktail??? And you only get 3 to an order plus I waited 45 minutes to get it - I was the only one at the bar! The bartender mentioned being short staffed which I get but then they should tell people ahead of time that there will be a wait. At one point the owners wife came through asking the bartender if he needed anything - yeah how about more staff or how about she jump in to help make drinks, run food whatever! The same thing happened the night before when I ordered the linguini dish - took forever to get it - ordered the pesto Alfredo sauce - so not worth the wait - the pasta was cooked well and it was a huge portion but there was way too much garlic in it for my taste. I only stopped in for food because it I was staying next door at Marigot Suites - would not recommend eating there - especially if you don't have a lot of time to wait. I wouldn't mind waiting if the food was exceptional - but is so was NOT!
Wonderful service and food
This was the first time my husband and I stay at a hotel on the boardwalk. The first 2 nights we were in the semi ocean/ boardwalk view, it was so nice king bed lots of room and the bathroom was the nicest cleanest I have seen. We then decided to extend our stay and got very lucky to upgrade to a ocean front, the room was amazing we felt like a king and queen. The room service was beyond excellent, when we extended our stay and switched rooms we loaded our stuff on a cart left it in our old room and they moved it to our new room for us once the room was ready in the mean time we went shopping at the outlet stores. We are already thinking of what week in September 2022 we want to go back. The staff and hotel get all thumbs up.
We really enjoyed our stay at The Breakers during Labor Day weekend. The hotel is conveniently located on the boardwalk that includes parking close to the hotel. The room was large and clean with a beautiful view of the ocean from the balcony. The hotel was very quiet which we loved. We also liked that the Dough Roller restaurant was right downstairs for breakfast and/or dinner. The kids didn't want to leave. We'll be staying again.
