PSI has been our go to spot for fine dining for decades. Last night was a huge dissapointment. We went with another couple who also frequents there. Our drcision this morning was we need to go back to all the other great Cape May fine dining spots. My buddy and I were excited to see the Porkchop with S Philly Antioasto. Failed on every count. 1. The antipasta was a bloob of arugla plopped on top of a thinly pounded and deep fried slab of pork. Not close to a chop. Think weiner snitzel 2. The blob of arugala had a few tiny pieces of supersad and cheese if you coukd find them 4. Our waiter and service was excellent. 5. Our Wives dinners were pretty good the Buratta and strawberres, Lobster Bisque and butternut raviolis were good. Big let down. We made our reservations 2 months on advance. Time to return to the Blue Pig and others Ron S
Peter Shields Inn dining experience never disappoints! It is outstanding every time we come, which is now over 10 years. This evening we enjoyed and shared the Octopus appetizer which is delicious! I had the Chilean Sea Bass and my husband had the serloin steak- both amazing! Our dessert was the Death by Chocolate which we shared- a must have for chocolate lovers! We love the dining experience at PSI- it never disappoints! it is outstanding! And our server, Dillon, serves with excellence!
Burrata and Beet Salad appetizers were excellent. Chilean Sea Bass and Short Rib entrees were average at best and not worth the prices that were charged. Crème Brûlée dessert was average. Service was prompt and attentive. Ambience was warm and cozy. Experience did not live up to the rave reviews we had read.
Sean was a very attentive server with a great personality! The food could have been prepared with more herbs and or spices. It was a little lacking in taste. The deviled eggs were missing in flavor. The Barata was too hard and not creamy. It is a beautiful environment and we will return, but I hope the food will be a little more flavored.
Beautiful turn-of-the-century B&B / Restaurant located on Beach Ave in Cape May's NJ. Would highly recommend! Ask for Sean; friendly, attentive while not rushing us through
My husband and I have been celebrating special occasions at PSI for years and have always loved it. This last time we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and brought our grown children along and we really wanted to knock their socks off. To say the night was underwhelming is an understatement. The waiter had too many tables first of all, he was aloof and practically nonexistent. We couldn't find anyone to bring us more butter and just went without. The appetizers were good, as were the entrees. It took a half hour to get a dessert menu and another half hour for the waiter to take our order. We just gave up and paid the bill and left. He could have cared less about making our experience positive. He ruined the whole night...and the icing on the cake, after spending $600, the hostess couldn't be bothered to look up from her phone to say good night. A VERY DISAPPOINTING EVENING.
PSI is a beautiful venue. We had a party of 6 and everyone's meal was exceptional. The piano certainly added to the ambiance. We were celebrating a few end of the summer milestones, but regardless of your reason, PSI is a very special place to dine.
Everything was outstanding. The only gripe was we had a 7:00 reservation and waited about 20 minutes to be seated. They had a small wedding party there so that may have had them backed up a little. Very pricey but quality, service and atmosphere are exceptional so you really can't complain.
Everything was fantastic. From the amazing appearance of the building walking up to the main entrance to the elegant setting inside. My wife and I had a wonderful evening. The wait staff is very professional and knowledgable. Food was superb. Can't wait to return.
Always enjoy dining at Peter Shields. The food is delicious, the atmosphere so relaxing and the service outstanding. We also love being able to bring our own wine! All in all, a great experience which I can highly recommend.

The ambience, food and service are exceptional! It's an impressive historical Inn. If you are or are traveling with a family member that requires a wheelchair, be aware that it does not have a ramp.
We had driven by many times over the years and admired the elegant historical architecture of this stately seaside mansion with its tall signature columns, which is located in the quieter area of north Cape May. We were delighted with our decision to dine here. We were able to park on the street, right in front of the inn as well as a beach access point. We enjoyed a brief walk to the beach before dinner. There were several outdoor areas to enjoy drinks outside before or after dinner. We had early reservations so headed inside and were seated right away. After waiting a few minutes for our wine to be chilled and opened, staff introduced the menu and several additional specials. From then on, the service was very knowledgeable and attentive. The lobster bisque first course was outstanding! Creamy and delicious, there were five large chunks of succulent lobster meat and accents of candied fennel that provided surprise bursts of flavor. For second courses, the sea bass en papillote was amazing ... sooo moist and delicately seasoned, while the tuna and foie gras special was a surprisingly delicious combination ... cooked to perfection with a more robust flavor profile. And, for desert, who can go wrong with a decadent chocolate trifecta of flourless chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, and chocolate ice cream??!!! We brought our own wine although there are local Cape May wines available for reasonable prices. There are plans to open a bar next year.
6 of us went to celebrate a recent marriage. Our entire meal was fabulous! And the staff could not have been more accommodating. We started with the oysters and then a tuna appetizer and shared all. I got The sea bass in parchment paper and it was absolutely scrumptious. For desert, we actually got one of each (as we were celebrating) and shared all. We Thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of them. We all agreed that it was definitely one of the best dining experiences we've had all year! ?
Wonderful food and ambience. The piano player is unbelievable; so talented and takes requests. Just a great restaurant and experience overall. Would highly recommend and look forward to returning.
We LOVE this restaurant. They have a talented piano player, excellent staff and the most amazing food. Our server, Dillon, was knowledgeable and helped to make for a wonderful evening. I had the sea bass in papillote with mushrooms - I can't begin to describe the flavors the chef created in this dish - definitely an outstanding taste sensation. The strip steak was tender and delicious. They do offer Cape May wines but it is also a BYOB. if you are in Cape May this is one restaurant you need to try
