This is easily the best dining experience in OC MD! Everything from the food to the service to the bayside views is exceptional! Since our family visits throughout the year and typically over the winter holidays, we just wish it was open during the off-season.

Wife's choice for her 70th and we were not disappointed. Our server, Angela, was very attentive and answered our questions thoroughly. Meals were filling and delicious. See you next season!

This is undoubtedly one of the best restaurants in OC, if not the best. We have always had top notch service and food, whether eating at the bar or in the dining room, or even outside during Covid when they somehow managed to turn the undercover parking lot into an elegant dining space. And the view from inside the restaurant is so beautiful and romantic. I love that this family run business has maintained such a fabulous experience on this level for over 40 years in Ocean City. It's the first place we take guests to show off the town.

The food and the atmosphere was top shelf. We had been in Ocean City for nearly one week couldn’t find food that pleased me until we went to Hobbit. The quality of the food was excellent…I had chicken and my husband can’t stop raving over the crab soup. We will be going back many times over. It’s pricey but “you get what you pay for.”
A must go too.

The Hobbit was recommended by a good friend. My husband made a reservation for our anniversary. On arrival we were greeted warmly and taken to our table. A lovely gesture of a tent card with Happy Anniversary was on our table. The wine and spirit selection is vast and varied. The menu offers soups, appetizers, salads, fish, beef, poultry, pork and desserts. The filet was perfectly prepared as per our request of medium rare. The order of swordfish was complex and the plating phenomenal. Beware. An appetizer of shrimp toast was so tasty and filling. Service was impeccable, prompt and not intrusive. A beautiful sunset completed our dinner. We highly recommend this restaurant. We will return. Note their hours are seasonal. They will close October 25 2025 and reopen March 25 2026.
An absolutely impeccable dining experience. Our waiter Tim was polite and on point, terrific service. We’ve eaten at The Hobbit before so we knew it would be exceptional. My husband had the catch of the day, Swordfish; and I chose the Stuffed Filet. Delicious!
We each started with a salad, Roasted Beet for him and Wedge for myself, they were both great. Our wine and dessert cocktails were fantastic and you can see how generous of a portion desserts are served.
I highly recommend dining at The Hobbit, it’s a wonderful experience with delicious food!

I don’t think my experience lines up with others. I am surprised this place has such good reviews based on food taste alone.
Atmosphere might be very nice as it has beautiful views however when it is sunny you get a bit baked and when I looked around half the people had sunglasses on indoors.
Service from our water was solid… manager unimpressed.
Food this is where our experience fell apart.
Steak ordered medium… came out very rare. The steak somehow was not evenly cooked. Not exactly clear how that could happen as I cook a lot of steak. Not the end of the world the water took care of it. Now the bad part while I didn't have my steak I ate what was left on the plate. On the plate was a fly…. A bit of an appetite killer. Waiter kindly replated the steak when it was ready. Manager stopped by to apologize and offered a drink on him and a dessert. Candidly, I didn’t finish my steak so hard to think I am going to eat a dessert. On top of that the steak was okay at best.
Wife’s meal no flies but the fish was okay. I had the same fish at one of the sodel’s restaurants the night before and it was a couple notches tastier. Sodels is a different price point so clearly they stepped up.
The upgraded potato side (au gratin or lyonnaise can’t remember) was amazing. Best I have had.
Cream of crab soup… I was dying to come here as I have read a lot about their cream of crab. The crab content was fine… not impressive. The issue with the soup it seemed like there was a spice in the soup that did not belong or someone had a heavy hand with it. The soup was okay.
Wedge salad was also okay. Someone had a very heavy hand with the balsamic glaze. The balsamic over powered the wedge.
Drinks solid but nothing amazing.
No dessert.
For me my meal was a lot of my favorites and outside of the side the food really did not taste all that good. My wife had a similar opinion.
Normally I don't complain and even if my steak comes out over or underdone I eat it anyway. I have never asked for anything to be compd but if your customer in a high end restaurant doesn't eat their meal and there is a fly in it then maybe you should do something.

My wife suggested the Hobbit because she attends a work event there yearly and Said it was nice. Im usually skeptical about white table cloth restaurants with over priced food and drinks and on this occasion unfortunately my skepticism was reinforced. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable and we started with the scallops and they were delicious but 27$ is ridiculous for 4 med size not even jumbo scallops mixed with some noodles and peas. Next , my wife ordered the steak med well which the waiter stated back to her that it will have a sliver of pink and I ordered the crab cakes. When the steak came out and my wife cut into it blood poured out on to the plate as the steak was med rare and needed to be sent back. The waiter was apologizing but you could look at that steak and see it wasn’t cooked med well and should have never been brought out of the kitchen. When my crab cakes were given to me I opened my white napkin and it had lip
Stick on it from a previous customer. Half
Way through my first crab cakes I discovered a huge shell. Her steak came back and we finished our dinner. We were apologized to again and for our troubles we were offered a piece of a cake and assured multiple times that the restaurant would take care of the cost of dessert as compensation for a ruined dinner and experience. It just goes to show that no matter how much you kiss the customers ass and put on a show pretending your something your not what keeps people
Coming back is the food even at elevated prices. Tonight the Hobbit was a big let down from the cleanliness to the food issues and the compensation for their mistakes. One and done.

One of our all-time favorite restaurants, having first dined here in 1990. We are always happy to recommend this establishment, and we sometimes schedule our trips to OC based upon the opening/closing of The Hobbit. We're very sorry to hear that the founder has passed on to The Grey Havens. He created a great, great place.

We had dinner at Hobbit on our anniversary, there was a choice of Peach salad on the menu, so we decided to try it.
It was so good, we haven’t stopped having it at home, now we eat it all the time

My wife and I came down to ocean city MD. for the counrty music festival and wanted an upscale dinner. We decided on the Hobbit and were blown away! My wife had the goulash and I had the crab chowder along with the catch of the day , swordfish. When I say the food could be served In a James beard awarded restaurant I mean it. The desert was just as good! Our server Chris was amazing as well! Even though it is towards the end of the season and it was crowded, Chris was speedy, attentive and conversational. I am looking forward to coming back next year earlier in the season to enjoy the great food and service again.
If you are in Ocean City, MD make sure to check the Hobbit out!
