We had been anxiously awaiting the opening of the new Riverdale location after having visited their previous Hyattsville location. The food is excellent. Cafe Azul’s Cuban sandwich is about the best I’ve ever had. And where have Cachapas been all my life? The sweet corn cakes and delicious fillings are truly outstanding. We’ve tried 6 different items in the two times we’ve been there and all have been terrific. Having said that, don’t expect “fast” food. I guess perfection takes time, and hopefully they’ll work out the kinks and timing, so I’ll keep the 5 stars based on food quality. Being able to order online in advance would be helpful.

Good Venezuelan food. The portions are not that big. Prices are reasonable. There is plenty of parking in the area.

Best Venezuelan Arepas you can eat in the DMV by a mile. Can’t recommend Cafe Azul Caracas de Ayer enough.

Me fascina la chicha, la mejor de la zona. Al igual que las hallacas, tienen el mismo sabor de las que hace mi mamá, que más se puede pedir! Y para los que les gusta la cachapa, son muy buenas también.

You can go anywhere in the world, & people's faces light up when they put delicious food in their mouths. Eating lunch at Cafe Azul* . My Sweet Tooth demanded a delicious treat last weekend, so I got in the car and drove to a bakery, I just learned of a few days ago. Unfortunately, because of the current pandemic, it has shortened hours & was closed at the time I went. * . Well when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade...so I quickly looks around & found a place close by that was opened and serving food, I decided we'd eat lunch instead of the sweet treat...we landed at Cafe Azul. * . We ordered the special of the day, which was a chicken salad made with tasty avocado pieces, sandwiched between tasty & delicious arepas. I ordered an old favorite drink of mine, called malta, a nonalcoholic barley drink. Cafe Azul offered an Venezuelan Brand, which was pretty good. * . Review: Pricing was good, the food was tasty and delicious, the service was great. The ambiance was excellent, the inside of the restaurant is decorated in colorful art & handicrafts. It was a beautiful day, so we sat outside, at an umbrella table. Located in the Hyattsville Art District, it has this arty, low key hip vibe. We completely recommend this restaurant, it was worth the short journey into the next county.

For Venezuelans and Colombians nostalgic for a taste of home Café Azul is the perfect solution. My personal favorite is a cachapa

My parents and I tried the hallacas and they are legit! So good! My parents said they are very authentic. We are Venezuelan and they loved there for decades. We got some for La Noche Buena and will be back to get some for New Years Eve. The only downfall of theirs is the tequeños. But the cachapas and arepas are delicious. The Chicha SS Areoz is legit!

Let's start with the male employee there, he treated me and offered me a sample of a rice milk drink. It's good. I tried the Cuban sandwich which is pork & ham with cheese. It was pretty good. The plantain chips were a good addition. The cheese stick was decent just not enough. Over all the food was decent. But for $16 it was pretty pricy

Had an arepa with pork and Gouda. It was good, never had one before. I also ordered the cuatro leches cake, it was very good although I wasn't expecting it to be so small - small enough to be in a condiments cup. Not sure if this is how it's normally served or if it was because I got my food to go but that size should not be $3.95.

Mi esposo me sorprendió trayéndome una reina pepiada y una chicha que hacía tiempo quería y no conseguíamos restaurant venezolano donde vivíamos. Simplemente que delicia! Todo fresco y muy rico! Ya quiero probar más de su menú...

I walked into this cute little restaurant excited about trying them. I left deeply offended by the way I was treated. When I walked in there was no one in line waiting to be served, but I wasn't acknowledged in any way. Then two people came in shortly after I arrived and they were promptly greeted. This made me raise an eyebrow, but after they were asked what they wanted while I was standing at the counter in front of them, well, it broke my heart. I haven't experienced this type of racism in a long time...blatant and hurtful. I am a black woman who spends her green money with people of all races and nationalities, but I hope I would deter others from spending their money here. Find a place that values all customers.

People! You HAVE to try this restaurant! I'm e Had tequeños, chicken empanadas, arepas and chicha. I couldn't be more pleased! Everything is fresh and the portions are pretty good. My friend's son who is pretty picky about his food. He loved the chicken empanadas!
