This place has potential, but I think some competition might make them sharper. Edible food.
Slow and disinterested service.
Crab cakes are better elsewhere.
Smith Island cake is better at the bakery down the street.

Had the crab cake platter cake with homemade sides; stewed tomatoes and corn pudding. Great flavor and perfect portions left me feeling completely satisfied without being too full. Very friendly staff from hostess to waitress. Not sure when I may revisit the island but I would definitely eat here again and would order the exact same meal.

It was a disappointment in an otherwise very good day. Boat ride over was great, but restaurant... main objection was being ignored by the waitress, she needs to find another calling in life. Then the fact that our softcrabs weren't hot when we got them was lousy. And we ordered soup, which didn't come before the main meal. It was just a weird and disappointing affair.

This was not my first time to Bayside Inn on Smith Island, but the first time I’ve had food that was absolutely subpar. We were a party of three who ordered crab cake platters. When we received our food, the crab cakes were burned. One of them looked as though it was pieced together. All of them were very small as if they didn’t have enough crabmeat. We were very disappointed in the quality of our food. The only decent item was the macaroni salad.
I suggest that if the restaurant is out of an item to let the customer know so they can order something else.

Took a boat over that dropped me right at the dock to restaurant! Inside and outside seating available. Clean restrooms. Gift shop with reasonable priced souvenirs.
Shrimp was local and fresh!! Sides were portioned and decent. Service was excellent - friendly- homey! An Experience! Bikes (a bit rickety but part of the charm) and golf cart rentals available.
It was a hot day and the island is slow paced and small. See waterfowl and met friendly people!

Great atmosphere! Good service by the staff. On future trips, I’ll stick to ordering a hot dog or burger & fries. I had the fried oyster & ham platter this visit. Oysters were okay. Corn pudding wasn’t even ‘warm’. The ham was ice box cold and just like processed deli meat sliced 1/8 thick. Not worth the $27 price. 😔
Soft shell crab sandwich was great. Staff was friendly. Highly recommend going here as it is a niche corner of America with some really great people living in it. Prices also totally average for the area. No bloated tourist rates.

Seats too low. Chest high table. Too much fried food. Hamburger has filler and the soft crabs left more to be desired. On top of that the food was cold.

If you are so inclined to take a day trip to Smith Island, then a trip to the Bayside Inn is also needed. Great food, amazing views, cute gift shop and most important Smith Island Cake.
