Nice venue overall but 1 star for fundraiser transparency.Attended a fundraiser for a 10 year old girl with cancer there couple days ago. Never was there any mention that the “tip jars” went directly to the red men. 4/5 of them went to the red men for this event. I can appreciate the value in needing to cover costs by recollecting via such means.But, to not be completely clear & transparent about the fact that 80% of what was collected goes to your organization is wrong. Especially when the people that come are doing so, & spending heavily, to directly contribute to a family of a kid with extremely aggressive, metastatic cancer is frankly reprehensible. It’s profiteering off the hardship of a child. That’s an unjustifiable action; regardless of how you try to rationalize it.Case & point: between just 4 people that were invited over $1200 was spent on tip jar tickets (not including the other 30+ people that came), all of which they donated back by buying till they were at 100% loss. None of them would have done so had it been made clear the money didn’t go to the girl, they’d have just donated it directly. I know the room was donated, but they nullified any value in that gesture by having their people work the event pawning tickets with more avarice than a crew of downtown Baltimore window washers.I’m sure it’s a nice venue for most other things, but if it’s an event intended to raise funds for people with legitimate financial hardship due to unprecedented circumstances, do so elsewhere. The venue will absorb a significant portion of the money raised simply by not being forthright.TL;DR: the Redmen raised more money for their organization at this particular event than the family received. All of which the donors believed went to the family.
