Great overall - only that some of the dishes were so drenched in sauce that it was overpowering.
Food was delicious. Service was fantastic. Their wine selection is off the chart and has many different price options. We would 100% go again.
Disappointing dinner at Modern Barn. We were quickly seated for our reservation and our server was helpful. However, 6 items from their small menu were already sold out by 6:30PM. The remaining options were expensive beef entrees or entrees containing wine/alcohol in their sauce. The apps and entrees we ultimately ordered were poorly done. Grilled shishito peppers (app) were barely warmed, effectively raw. Potstickers (app) had chewy wrapper. Waygu burger (entree) was overcooked and dry, despite requesting medium. Chicken Marsala was drowning in a bowl of sauce with bucatini pasta. Difficult to cut chicken, had to move it to an appetizer plate to eat. Buccatini served with the Marsala chicken was a messy eating because the stiff buccatini pasta just splashed that Marsala sauce all over the place. In all, just poorly done.
Food was great. Service was friendly. Bolognese had a nice kick to it. The $16 glass of Syrah was awesome. Enjoy!
Our dinners were great, everything came out in a timely manner and our waitress Anna was super!
Way to expensive for what you get. Not quite there as far as their cuisine is concerned. You might say "Trying too hard".

Very first visit to Modern Barn- it was fantastic! Our waitress was awesome! So friendly & she gave us plenty of time to decide on our drinks, appetizers & dinner selections. There were so many great things on the menu it was very hard to choose! Everything was delicious. The lobster sliders were excellent & so adorable. The stuffed sole & shrimp scampi were perfect. The presentation of the food was like works of yummy art. We will be back on our next visit.
Don't miss this gem! Great place that we would have missed out on but found it on Open Table! Redone barn- cool vibes. Great drinks/wine and the food was fantastic! Definitely recommend the lobster rangoons, stuffed sole with crabmeat and risotto, and the clam chowder with bread. So delicious!
My children & I love dining here! The food is great, the mixed drinks are delightful and the help is courteous and friendly. It is sad to me though, that one cannot get a simple cup of tea or coffee! Kudos for great service! A.H.
****Thank you for the response; I guess neither the owner nor chef were actually made aware of the issue, so it was more of a service issue than anything. Editing my rating as well. Would love to try again some day. Thank you !
This is a really cute place, nicely decorated, and the drinks were good. There is no “bread service”, which is fine, but also no bread for the mussels, which is disappointing for my family who loves dipping in the broth, but no big deal. The worst was my actual meal, though. I ordered blackened tuna, rare, and chose jasmine rice and a salad for my sides. The small piece of fish that came out was not only not rare, but it was very overcooked and dry. It tasted like dried out canned tuna. I only took a couple of bites and then waited for the waitress to check in. It took a bit, but not incredibly long, so when she asked how everything was, I told her that the tuna really was not what I ordered and why, and she said she would let the chef know. About 15 minutes passed and I still didn’t hear anything . When she finally returned to see if anyone needed more drinks I asked what the chef said about the tuna, and she said he was “not interested .” I said that I really didn’t want to pay $30 for this meal that I wasn’t going to eat, and she said she would take it off the bill, which I totally appreciate, but I left without having had an actual meal. The most disappointing piece is the chef’s apparent lack of interest in his guests experience at his restaurant.

If you’re looking for a nice place to get dinner in this area that isn’t too fancy or too casual, I recommend this one.
We were visiting the area from a bigger city and wanted a dining experience at a proper restaurant that didn’t feel like someone’s house. This restaurant is very unassuming on the outside (actually a modern barn) and was seemingly off the beaten path, but we walked in to a pleasant surprise. It was cozy and the service was friendly.
We sat on barstools (at the long middle table) which were a little difficult for my 6 year old niece to sit on but she managed.
The food was good here! We really liked the apps (chicken tenders and lobster rangoon). I had the chicken Milanese and really enjoyed it. My husband had a pasta dish and didn’t love it but thought it was decent.

What a great place!!! This is a very long overdue review of this great restaurant! We booked Modern Barn last August for a rehearsal dinner for my son and his wife. It was absolutely amazing!!! We decided to book the entire space , since we had a large party.(35 people) Jessica ,the owner ,.was a pleasure to work with!! She was so incredibly helpful deciding on the menu and the setup of the event.
When we arrived we were graciously greated by Jessica and her entire wonderful staff.!!The space looked beautiful!
We decided on passed appetizers which were so yummy!! Then we all sat down for an incredible meal (6 choices) and a delicious dessert(2 choices). Everthing was perfect and delicious !!
I can't thank Jessica and her entire staff enough for such an incredible evening.!!! I look back on that night with the fondness of memories!!!They made a special night so special!!! Thank you!!

Our food was good, but there were issues...we had to wait over an hour to get it, and aside from our party of 4, there were 2 other tables in the entire restaurant. We had to send one steak back for being undercooked, and the "fish and chips" came with ONE tiny piece of fish on top of a mountain of French fries. We complained about that and they sent out 2 more pieces of fish. Wouldn't go back again :(

Not a huge place but it's very cozy recently renovated inside (a very rustic feel). A solid selection of dining options and the food was excellent (I sent compliments to the chef). Very attentive wait staff and reasonably priced. I'll definitely be returning!

Imaginative cuisine, lovely service, praiseworthy re-fit of an old industrial barn. Very fancy wines at top dollar, but also lots of choices at reasonable prices. Full bar for cocktails, fresh oysters from the Maine coast. Even with most of the tables taken on a Sat night, was not terribly noisy. Bethel a lovely destination town with inns, cafes, shops, churches, and all the walking/hiking/skiing anyone could want.
