Great food and friendly staff. We came around 2:30 on a Saturday. The restaurant was still a little busy for mid afternoon, but we didn't have any wait to be seated or to be served. The food is phenomenal (go for the spicy version!) and Raj came over to introduce himself and check in on our experience.
I high recommend the bombay chicken and stuffed samosas for appetizers, and the garlic naan. For entrees we enjoyed the chicken vindaloo and homestyle lamb curry.
My only critique is that our server forgot to bring the extra drinks that we ordered, but they were in the middle of a shift change so I believe it was a simple mistake.
Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to visiting again!

You know a place is good when it has as many awards as it did on their wall and has been going for 50 years! Hands down the best Indian restaurant with a great atmosphere and killer food.

Absolutely delicious. Food was super fast, which was great because I was starving. Super hot and fresh, beautiful flavors- my favorites were the lentil soup and of course, the fresh naan 😍 Great vegetarian options. Staff are warm and the atmosphere is perfect. I live about an hour away, but will be back for more. Thank you 🤍

I did not expect to find an Indian restaurant like this in a place like Maine but what a surprise being an Indian with my wife and kids as we were visiting from Canada where we have numerous goof Indian restaurants. The food was fresh which you can taste, and the breads were baked just right to serve alongside. The history of this space lasting for more the 50 years is impressive in itself and the employees were knowledgeable and also spoke Hindi which was a very authentic touch to a place which seems not to have my desi people. Bombay Mahal, you are doing a great job.

We loved this restaurant! The vibe was modern mixed with traditional Indian elements. It’s a small place and very busy and popular. We ordered the Mumbai Masala hot chai (immediately served when requested, very smooth and balanced), the Maine Blueberry Dahi Puri (absolutely delicious with the most authentic flavors), Chicken 65 (mediocre taste, not as much flavor as we were hoping), Kashmiri Malai Kofta (wonderful and delicious, very smooth flavors) with Basmati rice. We also got an appetizer of Sindhi Papadum and Cooling Mint Raita (helped tie everything together). We ordered a mild spice level and items were still so flavorful. The staff were so kind and attentive the whole time, despite being short staffed and busy. We absolutely would come back here next time we visit again. Highly recommend!

This was our first time here and it was fabulous! Started with the garlic naan with 3 types of sauces plus I ordered the mango chutney…delicious!! My entree was saag paneer which was exceptional!! The service was great and the owner was very personable. We will definitely be back! I highly recommend it!!

I wish I could give them 10 stars! The writeup here is not really a review but more a word of appreciation for the super nice and kind people who are running the show here than for the food itself. We reached the place close to 8:30pm when they were already past their closing time. It was our mistake that we did not check their closing time in advance. They told us they were closed. We had a day of travelling ahead into the national park where the day would be super busy and the availability of food was expected to be rare. We wanted to get some food for dinner as well as get more packed for lunch the next day. They were extra kind to share the dinner they had saved for themselves and give it to us, upon knowing the fix we were in. They did not even charge us for the food. And the food saved us a lot of time and trouble the next day. On top of that, the Aubergine Vindaloo entrée they packed for us was their signature item prepared using eggplant and potatoes which was super tasty.

A special word of thanks from all of us in the family and best wishes for your growth and prosperity, Bombay Mahal team! We will certainly visit you whenever we can next time.

Wonderful chicken and fish vindaloo dishes made to desired spice level, as samosas and garlic naan - all fresh and delicious made with pride. Exceptional service with just the right follow up on flavor of dishes with a check on water and desire for dessert. Owner came up and greeted us and hope we will return again - and we will! Highly recommended!
