For the price I paid for a seafood platter had the smallest piece of fish burnt whole belly clams and about 5 French fries. Very disappointing these places charge top dollar but served frozen food like it’s fresh

Great spot for lunch on our way into Bar Harbor for the day. Helen’s offers a homestyle dining experience with traditional Downeast meals at affordable prices. The variety on the menu ensures everyone in the family can find something they’ll enjoy.

We had the clam strips, haddock burger, BLT, Caesar salad, and the lazy lobster. Everything was fantastic and full of flavor. We also took a slice of the homemade blueberry pie to enjoy later on our whale watch cruise, and it was absolutely delicious.

Service was great, but I do not recommend the Chicken Alfredo. The sauce did not have a good flavor and the chicken felt / tasted like it was cooked that morning and microwaved to heat it up.

Downeast Institution! This place was super. So did you order seafood, no I did not. In a homage to its orgin story, I ordered a hotdog. A red hot on grilled bun. I may have violated the cardinal sin of putting ketchup on it. Yet, I feel as though something compelled me, maybe a Mikumwesuk? Anyways perfect with grilled marks and scored. The accompanying French fries were crisp. Still on this tour were my two guests. Guest one had a crock of French Onion soup. These said it was warm and perfect broth. The cheese was not greasy. No emulsion breakdown, just a fine melted layer. My other guest had a piece of Blueberry Pie...Can I use slab, it was a good size piece. The server told my guest that it is served cold, but the server offered it warmed up.

The service was super fast. I could hear the server at other tables. My listening to her working knowledge of the menu, showed how good she was at her job. She was able to answer if the soup was cream or milk based. Really impressive!

As we left, one of my guest surprised us with cookies. We were each given a peanut butter cookie for us to take to the hotel for a later snack.

Helen's is a must if you are down east. The specials and the other desserts in the case looked so good. I did not surcome to the dollhouse pie they had!! Super grade A+ experience. I will return!!!

I hadn't been there for years due to my last visit but a friend suggested we get lunch there today. It will be years again if ever. The Reuben was almost all fat but I ate the bread and sauerkraut. This sandwich for $14 comes with chips, I upgraded to sweet potato fries, I wouldn't have had I realized that a handful of cold sweet potato fries were valued at $5, yes $5. I don't understand as Helen's in Machias has never disappointed. Oh well, lesson learned, $50 lunch for two🤣🤣.

We are on a road trip to see the east coast. The reviews were mixed and mostly positive so I thought we should have dinner. We ordered drinks and I had a draft beer and partner had a blueberry margaritas. My beer came right away. Hers didn't arrive until after the dinner was served. The reason you order a drink first is to relax before your dinner arrives. Disappointing. She ordered a lobster roll $32 it was mediocre, again disappointing. I ordered the French onion soup and a side salad. The soup was good not great. The side salad was odd. It came with lettuce and diced tomatoes and cucumbers. How odd, you expect large cuts of vegetables to be able to easily eat and grab. Also, there was no cheese, croutons or red onion. The salad was underwhelming.

.Worst grilled cheese I ever had. Two pieces of dry toast with a slice of cold cheese. Fortunately I added bacon or I wouldn't have been able to swallow it. Desserts looked good, but didn't want to waste anymore money.
