The Freeport Oyster Bar is located at 43 Main Street in downtown Freeport, Maine. It used to be a carriage barn & it's now a cozy, little spot to enjoy fresh, local cuisine. This restaurant is known as a raw seafood bar, but it's so much more! They also serve delicious "chowdah" & soups, "lobstah" rolls & salads. They have some interesting signature cocktails, as well as wine & beer selections.
To start off, I enjoyed the best clam chowder I've ever eaten in Maine! It's served with sourdough bread. Then I had some very fresh raw oysters, harvested locally & served with their own house mignonette sauce & lemon. The fish dip was delicious!
The Freeport Oyster Bar has seasonal, outdoor seating. Plan accordingly because they don't accept reservations.
They're closed on Wednesdays & serve brunch on Sundays.
I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

If you want a really authentic New England experience (Oysters, Lobster Roll, Clam Chowder), you won't do any better than this hidden gem. Great value too!

Freeport Oyster Bar provides a lovely and relaxing environment. All of the staff are professional, kind, and educational. Sam is an amazing chef and offers a variety of foods good for all. The oysters, salad and Grilled cheese was amazing and unique! Also great cocktails! We will be back next year for a visit! Thank you to the team!

The place is really cute and the staff is friendly! Their prices are really expensive and on two separate occasions the food has been mid quality. The first time we went, the lobster grilled cheese was really fishy to the point of being inedible. This past time, we paid $40 for a dozen oysters (had to pay extra for horseradish and cocktail sauce) and the adductor muscle wasn’t cut on some of them. For those unfamiliar, that causes the oyster to stay in the shell when you shoot it. For these prices, the oysters should at least be shucked properly.

I went here for the first time a few weeks ago. First of all, the staff were lovely and very friendly. The atmosphere was upbeat, and the restaurant was very clean and organized. The outdoor patio was also nicely wheelchair accessible, which is a plus as my husband is in a wheelchair. My concerns are regarding their prices - $4 per oyster?!! Considering these oysters are raised only a few miles away, this is insane. These are the highest priced oysters I have seen, and I’ve lived in Maine my entire life. J’s Oyster Bar, which is a great Maine owned restaurant, serves their oysters for a dollar less. I also ordered a glass of wine, which cost $13 - I’m used to these prices recently even though it’s crazy. However, my wine was served to me in a plastic cup. Even a $100 glass of wine is going to taste like the cheapest wine if served in plastic. The entire experience felt like a tourist trap with the goal being to charge ridiculous prices to people who don’t know better than to pay them. Again, the staff are great, and my complaints are directed towards the owners/management who are directing these prices. I love the idea of having more restaurants in the Yarmouth/Freeport area, but I won’t be going to this one again unfortunately.

It's a tourist trap. Good location with good vibes. Friendly staff. Fresh local oysters.
I will say the mignonette is probably the worst I've had. Very overpowering with an unpleasant lingering finish. Spicy kelp was good. I did that and lemons for most of my oysters
