I have had custom birthday cakes done for the past couple years. At every party I get so many people that ask who made the cake because it’s so delicious. I’ve tried out a couple other local bakeries but so far this one is the best.

Thank goodness for Tara and her shop! I hosted a 50th anniversary party for my parents in August and wanted a cake that was similar to my parents' wedding cake. I used to live in the Lewiston-Auburn area years ago, so I initially researched options at the go-to bakeries that I was familiar with, but none of them could give me the customized look or frosting and cake flavor combo that I wanted. Just as I was about to give up hope, I found Tara's shop online, and I'm so glad I did because the cake she made for me was the talk of the party. Everyone wanted to know who made the cake. Not only was the look of the cake exactly what I wanted, but it tasted incredible. I highly recommend Tara and her Sweet Cakes Bake Shop. Ordering online was a breeze (the form covered all the bases), Tara was great at answering questions quickly, and she was able to have the cake ready in less than a week. Thank you, Tara, for helping to preserve my sanity; you really helped make the party one to remember!

The cupcakes I ordered were perfect and a huge hit at the party! I ordered the marble flavor and it was very good.

Fyi, I recently got a cake and 75 mini whoopie pies for a graduation/18th birthday party! Ordering, paying and picking up were all super convenient but let's talk about the most important thing...how did it all taste? Fantastically delicious...that's how! A very traditional Maine whoopie with just the right amount of the perfect sweet, creamy filling. The cake? I chose a white cake with a chocolate ganache filling, topped with peanut butter frosting. It was sooo yummy! Please, think of Sweet Cakes Bakery for all your events. Just a hint, I have also ordered ny pies for the last couple Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations...totally takes a lot of the stress off. Thank you Sweet Cakes!

This bakery is amazing, the cake that was made was a Wizard of Oz cake for my wife, amazing art work and tasted amazing. I will definitely go back, and pass the word on how talented you are.

Last year I was looking for someone who could make a custom birthday cake for my daughter. A relative told me they got their cakes from Tara. So, I reached out to her. It was so easy to communicate with her, and the cake came out exactly as we wanted. It also tasted amazing! Everyone kept saying they normally didn’t like fondant, but they loved this cake.We just celebrated my daughter’s birthday this past weekend and again Tara nailed my daughter’s birthday cake. She will be our go to every year.

Only a small queue to buy but a long one to go inside and eat, so I just took mine to the park. I’m from Hong Kong, so I’ve had many egg tarts but these are definitely the best I’ve ever had. The pastry is flakey but very crispy, allowing it to be so thin.

....as in churn out the pasteis, churn over the tables. That is not to say that this place is disappointing - it is a good pastry shop and it has the best coffee americano that I have found (so far) in Lisbon. But it is a tour destination with about 500 tables dispersed among 4 or 5 small dining alcoves, a patio and a large court-sized room. We went there twice, the second time for our planned breakfast at 08:20, shortly after it opened. At that time there was no line control; there were no lines. We walked right into the seating areas. We avoided the small dining areas as too noisy (tile walls reflect a lot of sound) and sat in the large room. We ordered plain croissants, hot chocolate, coffee, and a pasteis bacalhau. From a previous visit we had tried the pasteis so we sampled other items this time. And we learned that the hot chocolate was too thick to drink - it is best eaten with a spoon - so we ordered a glass of hot milk to dilute it. Unfortunately, our waiter returned with a pasteis de nata - creature of habit - and a glass of cold milk. We made do with the cold milk but sent the pasteis back for the bacalhau. We are not experienced with pasteis bacalhau; it was good but don't know to compare it. On the other hand there was nothing bad about the croissants, but nothing good, either; they lacked flavor. To be expected; this place is not a viennoiserie. A tour bus must have arrived about halfway through our breakfast. Three or four dozen mostly asian travelers filed into the room. Our waiter became very busy and was difficult to get the check but with a little patience we settled up and left. We found our favorite pasteis were in Alfama. We visited the monastery next door. When we left the monastery around 11:00 the lines for both the pastry shop and the monastery were crazy long. What worked for us was to get to one (or two, in this case) popular destination early. Spend mid-day eating and visiting less well known sites then visit another popular site in the late afternoon.

The service is terrible. It will completely ruin the experience. Unprofessional, rude and deadly slow. The pasteis de Belém are good as always.
