LOVED eating here. It was our first time in the area and my husband and I are considered buying some property nearby. Our server was incredibly kind and helpful and talked to us about his experience living in Maine. He also heated up my apple cider, which was an extra step on his part. The menu has a variety of options and almost all of the ingredients are locally sourced. We had sweet potato biscuits and gravy and the pork sandwich (I think). Both were so good and my husband is a little picky. The inside of the restaurant was lovely and everyone who worked there greeted us and said goodbye as we left. The outdoor space looks very nice as well. This spot is definitely worth a try, even if you're just passing through.

We had an absolutely insane wait for our food and that largely marred our experience, and before I say anything more I will mention that due to this, they put the meal on the house which was a nice touch they did not have to do. Food itself was good, there’s a nice selection which is ok priced (expect to spend $25 per person) and the atmosphere is cozy. The 20 min wait for a table was completely reasonable, we had no resi and the place looked busy, but we spent nearly 1 and a half hours waiting for food and had to follow up on it multiple times.

Good brunch here. Was a little weird that I ordered an alcoholic coffee drink and was expected to go inside and get my own coffee, then they sent out a tiny pitcher with the alcohol to spike it. Came off a little strange. Good atmosphere and brunch was tasty. There are some interesting choices, for sure.

I came here once before and loved the food and it’s a cool place, the only complaint I had is they did not warn me I would get charged for a sip of coffee I had while waiting for a table. This morning we went and the food was not great, we had a reservation and still had to wait an hour. Not sure about this ok anymore.

The Hoot was packed at 10am on a Saturday! It seems like it is the main weekend brunch place for Northport, Belfast, and the surrounding area. There are no strictly vegan options on the menu, but I ordered the Brunch Burrito and had the chorizo, eggs, and crema removed and substituted avocado - the tofu that one commenter mentioned is not longer available. What I hadn’t thought of before ordering this is that the dish is built around those items, and without them it became a very typical black bean, sweet potato, kale, and avocado dish that is very boring to me, since that combo has been the main ingredients in the single vegan dish at non-vegan restaurants since the 90’s. Not as flavorful as I would have hoped. The garlic potato side was good, but rather small. The ambiance is nice and the staff are accommodating. No guarantees, but it seemed like there were at least two other dishes that could be made vegan in October 2024, a black bean burger and an aloo curry. I’m impressed that they could do anything vegan at all, since they are connected to the large pig farm next door, and nearly all of their dishes revolve around pig in some way. We visited The Hoot for brunch, and were not disappointed. The service was very good, and while the enfrijoladas were tasty and different, the smoked ham benedict is really where it's at if you're hungry. Really though, it's the mind-bending apple cider donut that stole the whole show. Go ahead, eat the donut, and it will make you happy regardless of what kind of day you're having. It's that good.

Very popular when open. Call to make sure it open or check web site. Inside and outside tables. Farm to Kitchen to table. Coffee is out and available if you have to wait. Good parking in dirt lots. We shoot for Sunday brunch.

Fantastic place to dine, great atmosphere, lovely self service coffee so you can sip while you wait to be seated. Once at your table, weather permitting there is lovely out for seating. The selections are creative farm to table sourced and all delicious. Went each day they were open during my visit to Maine. I highly recommend the zucchini fritters!

Excellent stop while traveling through the area. Incredible brunch, with great vegetarian options. Highly recommend the zucchini fritters, and the blueberry pancakes are not to be missed! We loved that they support local farms with everything on the menu. Unlimited serve-yourself coffee was also a nice touch!

It is incredible that in a small town like Northport, where there is no town really, there can be such a good restaurant. I have gone there many times with my family and it is always good. It doesn’t matter if they’re doing Turkish cuisine, or Mexican, I have never had unsatisfactory food there. Also it is usually so crowded that you have to wait sometimes 10-20 minutes for a table. But it’s worth it I would say. It is also in a nice wooden building.

Kid-friendliness: Very friendly to kids in my experience and I assume that even though The Hoot has recently changed owners, their friendliness toward kids will not change because the new owners got trained for a few months by the old ones.

Red beans and rice were the best I’ve had, andouille sausage from locally raised pigs.

The Hoot is well worth a stop. The setting is really special both inside and out, with inviting outdoor seating as well as a spacious interior decorated with interesting art. The menu has all the classics, plus creative and varied options from multiple cuisines. There is truly something for everyone. The donuts, served fresh and hot, are out of this world.
