Unfortunately this was not the best choice for dinner with 3 hungry kids but there were a few good things, so I’ll start with that. The outside looks very cool and beachy, deck style attached to a surf shop. Nice grassy area on the side for running around with a toddler while waiting for the table. Our hotel was close by so we chose this place out of convenience and the look on the outside. I figured with the name Hooks and the logo as a fish it would be seafood?.. but nope American/ Mexican I suppose you could call it?
30 minutes to get a table which was understandable on a Saturday so I ordered food immediately as we sat down but ended up waiting 40 minutes to get our food! we’re talking burritos, a hotdog with chips/watermelon Service was nowhere to be found the entire wait like maybe to offer chips or something? I was going crazy with a toddler who was hungry. I noticed no tables around me had food and most people were twiddling their thumbs.
Finally food came (what a relief) and got the wrong order for one person. All the food was quite mediocre and $17 for a kids meal? Wow the most expensive I have ever paid at any restaurant. The rice was not real authentic either but parboiled. Lots of complaints I know, but it was pretty disappointing all around and wouldn’t return.
May be nice for a drink at the bar and some chips but if you’re looking for a quick meal with good quality food/service this just ain’t it. Not sure why the slow service..not enough help in the kitchen, inexperience, poor management?

The waiter was nice. But the food was served late. Tuna bowl was not great - a dish that is not quite right. Avocado & mango could be address. Too many crunchy stuff in it. Also quinoa does not match the dish. The sauce was too thick and volumy. Too much pickles ginger and ruined the taste of the whole dish. It was a bit pricey here as well.

Great place for a fun dinner. Open atmosphere with lights at night. The service was adequate they were all young kids working their summer jobs. The food was good but it’s not a place for foodies. It’s pretty basic and there isn’t much original. All in all a relaxing place for a drink and to meet friends.

We loved the grilled shrimp tacos and shrimp burritos too. We went back and took bowls (poke type) which we liked less (personal tastes). The atmosphere and service are impeccable. We will return there on our next trip!

We had dinner here on 7/27. The drinks were fine. The tortilla chips are definitely store bought. I had the ancho beef tacos it looked like dog food, super watery, the taco shells are store bought and similar to the mission brand. My husband got the chicken bowl and there was about 3oz of chicken total in the dish. My son got the pork tacos and the meat was dry and lacked flavor. My youngest got hot dogs which weren’t even delivered to the table until we were about halfway through dinner and they were ice cold in the middle, how do you mess up a hot dog? Clearly the chef completely lacks any culinary experience. The most bland underwhelming “fusion” food we have ever had!
