During a mini fall getaway last weekend, I decided to stop by Black Bear Brewing for a drink and something small for dinner. I was a little hesitant on expectations based on some previous reviews, however I was pleasantly surprised upon entering the building. It is warm and inviting when walking in, the bar tops are absolutely gorgeous & I have never seen a bar so clean.

While at the bar Caitlin recommended the flight of margaritas i chose the watermelon, classic, pineapple, and strawberry. I had the pulled pork sandwich with fries. The food and drinks were both perfect! Next time I am in town I will definitely be making sure to go back for more.

I mentioned to Caitlin that I was glad not to have followed the older reviews and gave them a chance. She let me know ownership had recently changed and they did a remodel upon opening. So glad I gave the place a chance.

Outside looked super warm and inviting but strange playschool style colors inside. Lighting was liminal, mix of warm and cold color bulbs in different areas and every lightbulb was glaring in your eyes. I had fish and chips. Food made my stomach hurt. Fish batter and fries all tasted strangely sweet. Expensive for what we got. Fish was stacked on top of a fry mountain so even if you wanted to cut it up there was no room, all the cheapest tasting sauces taking up space on the same plate as well. Tartar sauce was unexplainably gross. Neither me nor my husband could bring ourselves to finish the meal.

Completely terrible. The only the only thing worse than the lighting is the food.

It's just been announced that the Black Bear Brewery in Orono will not be re-opening. It was a great local place and will be sadly missed.

Appears to be destroyed an inaccessible. Can’t tell if this is an open or operating business. Recommend calling ahead

Was visiting ME for the first time from IA to brewery hop the Bangor area. Visited this location on 4/6/24. Been looking at the area for the last couple years to know their former Bangor location had closed few months before. Had high expectations for this particular location to end up disappointed... no online store, 10-12 taps while only having 2 house beers. Seems like their best days are behind them when the space has much protentional; When the fact that its in a college town, the campus only 1 mile away.

We are lucky to have a selection of Microbrews in Orono! Black Bear gets 5 stars from me for its great (and diverse) beer, amazingly friendly and awesome bartenders, and chill hang-out vibe - it’s called “Orono’s Living Room” for a reason.

They have such a comfortable bathroom I’d go there just to take a leak any day. Shoutout to Jeff. He’s the homie!!

This is a great place to have a locally brewed beer. The bartender is awesome, the beer is great, the atmosphere is good, the prices are fair.
