Atmosphere is beautiful. Bar tender was friendly. The food was lack luster and not good. The salad was good. Lobster roll was tiny and you had to pay more for a toasted bun or lettuce. The fried clams and scallops were the worst. Bay scallops that were tiny and clams not fried well. Under cooked and soggy seafood plate. Won’t be back again. Could be great if food improves.

More than Half of our pint of fried ‘whole belly clams’ had no clam at all or a tiny piece of clam neck, ie clam strip. The few clam bellies we had were not sweet but small and shriveled.
When I commented the server just shrugged.

The credit card machine didn’t work and there was no convenient place to sit.

I won’t mention they were also pumping diesel as we ate. Yuck.

Added 2 days later:
YES I HAVE THE CORRECT RESTAURANT. A life-long resident of Portland (went to Deering High) said your establishment once was good - now all batter and NO CLAM.
But I can use another email address and give you another one-star review if you want to be argumentative instead of apologetic. I visited your institution (I would have called it a food-service business but as you noted you don’t ’serve’ your customers) - you feed your customers the WORST fried clams in Portland.

A young person took our order, took our cash (credit card machine wasn’t working) and SERVED our inedible food through the window where we ordered. What do you want me to call her??? She wasn’t a waitress, you don’t have table service.

And I did bring my complaint to the window - and our ‘server’ just shrugged with an apologetic look because she KNEW the WHOLE belly fried clams for $30/pint had less clam than clam strips. She didn’t offer to get the manager - maybe you should train your ‘servers’ to get the manager when there’s a complaint.
What do YOU call people who don’t cook the food but take your money AND hand you (ie serve) the food? She wasn’t a cashier, or a dishwasher.

Super expensive, very small portions. Never again.

Absolutely horrible! The worst lobster roll I ever had. Two little pieces of lobster on a nasty roll. Avoid this place!

The food was a little pricey to begin with and then when reviewing the the bill I was flabbergasted to know they charged for some standard compliments . They charge for toasting buns, mayo, lettuce , onions on haddock sandwiches and toasting buns on hot dog. Minimal charges but when you order a hot dog at a stated price and reviewing the bill the cost is 7% higher due to a toasted bun , I found it a little to much.

Seeing its the beginning of the season here in Scarborough, I wasn't that impressed. The fries were VERY salty, the scallops were not the greatest, and the coleslaw was terrible and very small portion. Only picnic tables, outside window for service, bar is on the side building

Great food, staff and view! Refreshing since we went to a much larger restaurant in the area that was not good. Love the Tavern on site that serves drinks too. We had whole belly fried clams and they were delicious. I heard the chowder is great…. We’ll be back!
