Limited menu especially if you are gluten free. Waitstaff did not understand what gluten free means ... for example offering pasta as an alternative. Food runner forgot to bring out the salad we ordered.
Good food, friendly service in a relaxing atmosphere.

loved the warm, airy porch. Delicious dinner! Easy parking and lovely waitress. Will return as regular customers.
I've had fish and chips at Shade a number of times this summer and last night's fish and chips was the best of all summer. The new chef is doing a fine job. Thank you, Ed Blaise
Love a neighborhood restaurant and Shade is a vital part of the Higgins Beach community. Currently struggling a bit with cocktail quality and food is good but not great for the price.
We love the Lobster Scampi over Linguini! Our server was delightful, and the wine was the perfect complement to our dinner. The blueberry dessert was a shareable treat. Shade is a special, seasonal place. We enjoy it frequently.
A little disappointing. Food came before drinks, and food was a bit cold. But a nice spot. Will try again when it is not so busy.
This is an impressive operation for a restaurant that is open only seasonally and is connected to a beachside inn. The easy thing would be for them to serve standard beach fare, but instead they offer thoughtfully prepared fresh food that reflects all of the ingredients the area has to offer, most notably, fresh fish and produce. The menu is also quite generous, with offerings ranging from fish to pasta and beef. There are daily specials and crowd pleasing desserts (blueberry crisp). The place is in great demand and do not be surprised if you are turned away without a reservation, especially on weekends. I had a wonderful pasta dish with lobster, a fish, stew, halibut, and a satisfying and well prepared fish sandwich. I can hardly find fault with any of it; It was all tasty and well prepared. The staff here are all attentive and kind. The kitchen hits all of its marks dish after dish. There are good cocktails to be had and a serviceable wine list with a fine main cider on it. Breakfast items are worth mentioning, with offerings fresh from the farm and robust enough to last you all day. I enjoyed all of my meals here tremendously, and recommended it highly. Again, reservations are in order so you aren't disappointed.
Wonderful meal and service on the porch. Fantasticservice, oysters and fritters were great. Burgers and fish & chips were great too, had margaritas!
Allie was the best waitress I’ve ever had the pleasure of being served by ! I’ll be back just for her !!

Four of us dining. The food was amazingly good, all agreed. Halibut cerviche, cornbread, fritters, haddock, scallops, summer berry crumble. All great. Very nice casual ambiance on porch. Will return for sure.
Limited menu ( a few items on the online menu were not offered, the online menu you had not been updated). Service was slow at first waited a while to get water and place an order Halibut was dry. Drinks were pricey ($17 for an old-fashioned( but good.
First off, the food was really good.
But, the service was bad, like, comically bad. Get comfortable.
We had a reservation but ended up with extra people in our party. I called several hours ahead and they said they could accommodate us all, but we would have to have split tables, which was fine. When we arrived, they said one table could sit and one table had to wait out on the porch, even though the other table was set and empty. We asked if we could all sit at the same time and they said no, they had to stagger the orders. Ok, no biggie, but can we just sit and wait to order? No. We have to go out to the porch. Ok. That table of 4 goes to the bar and asks to order drinks to take out on the porch and the answer was no again.
So, the first table sits and the 4 top next to us is empty, so we ask if the 4 on the porch can have that table when they are allowed back in. No, that table is reserved. One person asked, is this too much trouble? Should we go elsewhere? And the waitrperson says you are welcome to leave. Which, most of us have or are currently working in restaurants and know that that is a firable offense where we work or worked.
At that point, the other table comes in, sits down, has a lovely waitperson and gets their food way before us even though it was all supposed to be staggered.
The food was delicious.
And no, the table next to us was never filled and to add insult to injury, it was auto gratuity even though the checks were separate.
Again, the food was delicious.
It was a great experience! Great table on the porch, really good food with excellent service! A fun evening overall!
We love this little neighborhood spot. The food is consistently great and the service is warm and wonderful.
