Wanted to Thank the Cheese Iron for the great sandwiches they provided us while we were having a difficult time while waiting for news on our beloved dog from Maine emergency vet hospital. They provided our dog, a few slices of meat for his ride home to central Maine as he was Super anemic from emergency surgery. They are great people and I can see why they have been in business for so long. We will be back for more cubano sandwiches! Thank you again!

OMG, what a gem! Such a variety, cheese, salami, pasta, sandwiches, you name it! We are so happy that we stopped there on our visit, we will be back! Can we recommend that place? A thousand percent!!!

Most people visit The Cheese Iron for their sandwiches (understandably so; we’ve had them, and they are delicious!), but for me, the beauty of this place is in its cheese and deli meats. We make a lot of fresh pasta at home, and they always have the freshest ingredients to take our recipe to the next level. For example, many Italian recipes call for guanciale (Italian cured pork), and we could never find it locally until we visited The Cheese Iron. We had to settle for pancetta until we found this gem of a spot.Their focaccia and baguettes are delicious, and their cheeses are always fresh. They also are the only place we’ve seen locally that carries Lioni Latticini burrata, which is, without a doubt, the best burrata we’ve ever tried. We stopped buying commercial burrata altogether after trying that brand. Plus, their customer service is unmatched — everyone is always welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Those little (and big!) elements continue to bring us back to The Cheese Iron.I’m so, so happy The Cheese Iron exists in Scarborough.

Simply amazing. My family and I have been visiting the store for several years now. My wife and I find items here that we buy in Spain. The owners are such nice people and take time to get to know their customers. Five stars, would give six if it was an option.

My son and I needed help in getting top-notch cheeses in three categories: triple creme, blue cheese, and a manchego-like cheese. We also needed help for our salami selection and for a liver pate. Employee Zach was a wonderful help. He was extremely helpful with all of our selections and very pleasant and patient. We look forward to seeing him again the next time we visit the Cheese Iron.

Great shop with excellent and knowledgeable staff. Sampled a few cheeses and ended up leaving with several great options. Also got a meatball sub which was outstanding. Would definitely return if I'm in the area.

Each time we go to the ocean in Maine, we visit this wonderful gourmet boutique which has a truly outstanding selection of domestic and imported cheeses, house-made baked goods and ready-made sandwiches and dishes available in addition to a great selection of gourmet non-perishable items like olive oil, tomato sauces and canned fish. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

We have been going here for years. The best place to get a lunch to take on the plane or just sit and enjoy! Love it!

My favorite local shop experience! Every time. Consistently stellar service, amazing selection, recommendations.Little backstory on this review: My husband and I were going out on a date night on a sunset sail and I was very excited to plan a high end wine and cheeseboard experience on it. I was walking into another specialty grocer not even a quarter mile down the road from The Cheese Iron, walked up to their cheese counter, and the person behind the counter didn't seem interested in helping me at all. I realized when I was in there that I was looking for the experience I'd had at Cheese Iron once before years ago - and that it was right down the road! I left, drove to Cheese Iron, and had the best experience. Again. This time I believe it was Isabelle who greeted me warmly, and when I told her what I was in the market for, she asked perfect questions to put together some fantastic cheeses. She gave me samples, let me give feedback on whether or not it was to my liking, and I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. She and another gentleman behind the cheese counter gave some wine recommendations, and it was perfect! Will be going back. Can't speak highly enough of the experience.
