We stayed in Vinalhaven for a couple of weeks, and we stopped into Surfside on our last day while we were waiting for the ferry. What a wonderful setting! It helped that it was a glorious day and the sun was shining on the water, but it’s a great outdoor space to enjoy a cup of coffee and some breakfast.
Th owners were so pleasant.
Oh, and my eggs were cooked perfectly! The English muffins could have been toasted a bit more, but it is possible that is simply my preference.

Went to Vinal Haven on a Sunday, not a good choice as everything was closed. Enjoyed a walk and stopped here on the way back to the ferry. They'closed and we're clearing up but I asked if I could get a coffee. They said sure and would we like a muffin. I got an amazing date muffin and a cup of coffee and they left us to sit on the deck to enjoy it.
Thanks!👍

We’ve been coming here for breakfast for at least 10 years. It is always a treat. The service is great; the food is delicious. A great place! We look forward to going in every time we get to Vinalhaven.

My family and I went there not knowing what to expect, but my goodness we loved the environment, the workers, the food, and the sense ambiance. My family and I got to have a very lovely conversation with them and we went there 3 days in a row. truly loved this place and the people there. Will miss it for sure. The wait time for the food was a bit long, but it was totally worth it

Honestly, the food is very simple, fish cakes and hash, not designer sausage and eggs Benedict, but yummy and satisfying…. I just love this place! It’s basically the coastal Maine version of a diner. Authentic doesn’t even begin to describe it. You could close your eyes and know you were in Maine just from the accents and the topics of conversation. And the view is killer, looking out over the lobster boats in the harbor. No visit to Vinalhaven is complete without breakfast at Surfside.
PS I just read back and saw 3 1-star reviews posted 3 years ago—likely all from a group of 7 who admitted to going in to sit down with coffee from another establishment, and then had the chutzpah to call the owner rude for refusing to serve them. Bizarre behavior!

Great breakfast including the blueberry muffins
Amazing breakfast
Exactly the kind of informal breakfast joint you'd expect (and hope) to find in this sleepy harbor village. Locals who all know each other come and go, sharing tables and anecdotes while the salt-of-the-earth waitress keeps everyone's coffee mugs full. Breakfasts are simple and hearty with generous portioning and no-nonsense style of service. Open 7 days a week when I visited in late September 2021.

Fiance and I stopped in for breakfast while on the island. Great food, great prices, friendly staff.
Went to eat breakfast with my family. We had 7 people in our group. Owner saw some of us got coffee at the bakery. She got really angry. Started yelling at us. She refused to serve breakfast. She was extremely impolite, rude and nasty.
I liked it, pancakes we're good, small place, don't expect much, but would go for breakfast any time.

Food was great and a sunny day. Definitely would say make the stop if you're ever out on Vinalhaven
