Honestly, I want to love this place. I love the idea of it being shared with a ministry space. The food and the drinks I’ve tried have also been pretty good (even though their chicken is similar to Perdue Short Cuts). However, the few times I’ve been in, the staff is always extremely unpleasant. I’ve never once been greeted by anyone working there when walking in or asked if I have any questions about the menu. Basically just get ignored until I’m standing at the register trying to make eye contact with someone who can take my order. When ordering it seems like the person taking the order is bothered by me being there in the first place. This time was so uncomfortable that I decided to get my items to go and eat in my car. I had asked to leave something off my sandwich and when I got it, I realize it still had the ingredient on it so I went back in and waited in line to ask them to remake it. The girl who took my order, took the sandwich and asked the kitchen to remake it. Watching the exchange, I could tell that they were clearly frustrated. I waited in the café for my sandwich before realizing that there was an unlabeled box just sitting at the pick up counter and nobody had told me that it was ready. I ended up going up to the counter and asking a girl that I had made eye contact with a few times if that was my remade sandwich to which she said yes. Overall, if you don’t care about customer service at a place like a café it’s probably fine for you, but if you care at all about good customer service, I would not recommend going here.

Most expensive breakfast sandwich I’ve ever had and possibly the worst. I expected something better for $11. Extremely dry. Cheese not melted. Forgot the bacon. Egg seemed microwaved and overcooked. My standards are not even that high. Crooked mile microwaves their eggs and its delicious. The ingredients seemed decent and fresh otherwise, but it all came together for a dry bland sandwich.

Roots is our favorite coffee house! Bible and breakfast = bliss. The breakfast crepe might be the best thing ever. Chock full of veggies, eggs, cheese & bacon (my pref). Praise God for such a wonderful establishment.

10/10 great iced chai, pastry’s looked great, the best part is the library of free bibles and religious books. Amazed at what God has led me to. Roots Rocks

We went to Roots because of the gluten free menu.
We had sandwiches and we're disappointed in the bread..
Coffee and pastries were very good.
It was expensive for the quantity of food.

We visited the Roots Cafe last June. Everything was such a great memory. We are from Atlanta, GA and Roots Cafe is one of the best cafe’s we have ever visited. You won’t be disappointed. Just want one down in Sandy Springs, GA. Hope to see you all again in our travels. Thanks for the memories. Won’t forget the great specialty coffee and bakery goods and service. ❤️ D & B. Just had a horrible experience here with a very rude employee. Treated me like garbage. My first visit here and will definitely be my last, I’ll save my money for a place who respects their customers

My family and I were having an awful day and found ourselves at Roots for some nourishment while awaiting medical results. Never have we ever felt so comforted and held by complete strangers. This place not only offers absolutely delicious food and drinks, but a community of genuinely kind and loving people. We are in complete awe. Portland is so lucky to have a spot like this. A special thank you to Sara. So grateful to have crossed paths with you. p.s. Finn LOVES the peanut butter cookies!

This has become our favorite place in this area. They have great sandwiches, quiche and coffee. They also have delicious baked goods (cookies, cupcakes and muffins). The sandwich and salad selection is fantastic. Their quiche is really, really good. I suggest trying a sandwich with a crepe as the "bread". DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT TRYING THE MEXICAN MOCHA DRINK. Cold or hot. It's got a tiny "kick" (peppery) but it's the best. They also have an attached library room for those who wish to avail themselves (free Bible if you need or want one). The books are geared toward those who are Christian but THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PRESSURE WHATSOEVER TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS PART OF THE ESTABLISHMENT. If you aren't in to that, you can simply not go into that area (there is a door to separate the restaurant from this area). Regardless of your religious faith or non-religious beliefs, you will enjoy the food and drinks. And the service is EXCELLENT. BTW, the prices are extremely reasonable for the area. My wife and I had 2 sandwiches, chips, an apple and a Mexican Mocha drink for <$25.
The drinks that I have gotten from roots have all been something I feel I could make better at home for a lot cheaper and same goes for their food. I personally only go when a friend invites me there to hang out.

This was our 2nd time in and we really enjoy everything from the design and layout of the space, menu, price point, quality, and staff. Excellent coffees this time and some sweet treats. There is a sense of tranquility and calm here that we both enjoy each time.
