Although they are primarily known for the coffee and breakfast, they have an amazing dinner selection. It was almost empty when we arrived which is crazy for a Saturday night in Ada, but it worked well for us.

I tried the gnocchi and would absolutely recommend it. My husband got the burger and also enjoyed it. Our drinks were also good.

We were so excited to see this was opening in Rockford. Unfortunately that excitement turned into disappointment. While we know this is opening week, being out of your popular menus items (and many of them) at only 5:45 pm on a Saturday night should be embarrassing. In an opening week, I’d expect to have a wait or slow service, but not being out of two appetizers and at least two or more entrees. With two other locations, I would think that forecasting would be a little more accurate when you are trying to make an impression in a new community. That said, we ordered the burrata and subbed the bread for a different type which came burnt and unsliced. Seeing the poor presentation I was a little nervous for what was to come. We ordered the gnocchi as a second choice and the halibut. The gnocchi came dry without the vinaigrette. Honestly it was terrible even after asking for the dressing and I sent at least a quarter to a half back after forcing myself to eat some of it to try not to be hungry. I left hungry and went to Pump House. The halibut for $35 was such a small portion we were baffled. Our bill came to $108 with our son’s plain cheeseburger and fries included in that cost. We enjoy a variety of restaurants Lucy’s, Little Bird, Social Misfits, the Old Mill, Grill One Eleven, Wealthy Street, and the list goes on. I say this to show that we love to dine out at fantastic local restaurants. These places are all exceptional. As a family who will pay whatever we need for amazing food and a night out I would never pay this again for an incredibly subpar experience. All of this to say we won’t be back and I’m not sure how this is going to thrive in Rockford if this is how it starts out.

Went to the Rockford location on opening day and it was great! Paige was our server and super helpful in helping us choose drinks and food. We live 2 blocks away and are super happy about having this dining option downtown!

Good place for brunch if you’re willing to spend a little bit. My friend and I split a plate (which was plenty of food for both of us) and found it fairly affordable but if you’re getting a plate each it may be a little pricey for regular attendance. That said, the drinks are excellent (including the seasonal options!) and the food is very tasty!

The only positive thing is the food, which tasted very good. I got the chicken salad Sammy. Price of food is on the bit higher end. Service was not the best. The atmosphere was pretty good. My friend really likes the plants present at the restaurant. We were sat right away but it took about 10 minutes for a waitress to come over to ask us if we’re ready to order. After taking orders, the food took awhile to come. Then after we finished eating, no one looked our way or came by until another 10 minutes passed by. The check was brought over but they didn’t split the bill like we asked. So again it took some time to get that part fixed. We probably dined in there for more than one hour because of all the glitches.

Went here b/c saw it was a highly rated breakfast place, and it did not disappoint.
-excellent food with much of it locally sourced 10/10
-best straight coffee I’ve had at a restaurant/coffee shop, and I’ve had a lot. Lots of flavor and not watered down or weak, but not overlay strong. Just GOOD. 11/10
-good portion size, and everything was fresh, and very good.
-excellent service
Overall 10/10, even with the wait for food. Gladly would make one of our regular spots and go out of the way to go to.

Uncooked pork after waiting 45 minutes in a half full restaurant, host forgot silverware, server didn’t check on us after first couple bites while the rest of the servers were doing their hair in the mirror. What happened Mudpenny? Used to love this place. Felt bad for them so I still left 20%. Regretting that decision after realizing it was still $47 after a 35% discount for two small meals. Fault of poor management rather than the employees. Do better!

Normally love this place for brunch but today we waited 45 minutes for our food, the biscuits and gravy was cold, my byob was undercooked - the eggs were runny and my sausage was PINK, we barely got discounted for it and still paid about $50.

Very attractive setting and dining room. We want for breakfast on a weekday and found it medium busy. Food was very good. Coffee was outstanding, however we were never offered refills. When I'm paying a $5 premium for ambiance, I expect my coffee to be filled regularly.

The atmosphere is beautiful with many windows and indoor/outdoor seating. My family and I had not visited for years, although it used to be one of our favorites restaurants. While our server was apologetic, Mudpenny no longer appears to be a great option if you’re allergic to gluten—or long waits.

Upon entering, the atmosphere is upbeat with a modern flair — love the Lincoln print and the decor! Definitely a spot that catches your eye right away.
Unfortunately, service and execution missed the mark on this visit. There was quite a wait for a server to appear, though she was friendly and explained some menu features once she arrived. While waiting, I visited the restroom and noticed the service counter lining the kitchen — a neat setup, but cluttered with servers’ personal items, including a belt right near the rolled silverware. The area adjacent had broken cabinets, a dirty window, and plenty of dust and spiderwebs — not great considering it’s a small space and visible to the staff hangout spot.
It took 2 hours for our food to arrive. My iced coffee, ordered after my family’s drinks, sat in the wait area for 20 minutes (my son spotted it) before NEVER being delivered — melted ice, separated layers, and no longer appealing. When I asked for it to be removed from the bill, the server blamed the barista. If coffee really takes 20 minutes to make and comes without ice, I’ll pass next time! Take accountability and be honest, it is more attractive to someone who spent 20 years in the industry and especially to those who know better.
Food was mediocre, and my breakfast sandwich was cold on arrival. Our server seemed more focused on hanging out at the service bar than on guests.

That said, I believe in second chances — and extra shots! I’ll give Mudpenny another try because the vibe is great and I see its foodie potential.

Took 15 minutes to get seated. Took 10 minutes to get greeted. Left after a server who had walked past our table multiple times in the 10 minutes we waited to get greeted asked if anyone has helped us. Have eaten here once before, food is great. It’s a shame that the low quality service won’t allow up to try it again.
