Sarah is the SHIZZLE so if you know, you know
Had a lovely time, the folks who run this place are top notch. The food was excellent, they do need to make sure that all their scallops have no sand or pearls still attached to the bottom. But the Gouda was fantastic.

My absolute favorite restaurant in Calhoun County. We take every visitor from Seattle here. Can't wait for next time!

First time, went for our anniversary dinner. I was amazed! Service was impeccable (thanks Trish) and the food was perfect! Cooked perfectly and tasted unbelievable! Worth every penny! Pumpkin risotto with sausage is a must. The scallops & shrimp had a flavor profile that had me in awww with every bite! If you have room for dessert, the Pumpkin fritters a la mode...my mouth is still watering! We'll be back for sure!

Outstanding service, and most of the food was interesting and good ( we had a family group of 11) but the spaghetti sauce had an unpleasant somewhat bitter taste that my 6 year old granddaughter and I did not enjoy. Or server passed on my concern to the kitchen staff and no response beyond that they thought it was all good... Also disappointed with the scallops..
I would not plan to return.

Service staff were attentive to use and all tables around ours. The featured whitefish and risotto dish was excellent, and my husband enjoyed the mushroom fettuccine. We will definitely be back!

Best dining experience I’ve ever had, the food is a bit expensive but absolutely worth it, staff have been very friendly every visit, after my first visit a few of them even remembered me, and the waitress even remember what I had ordered the first time even tho the visits were more than a month apart, they are very accommodating when I had failed to make plans for Valentine’s Day and when I called them the day of they were completely booked but still made room for me and my girlfriend to come in, the crab cakes are my favorite thing on the menu, this was the last restaurant that me and my girlfriend had gone to before I got deployed back in April, and it is also the first place me and her will be going when I get home in 6 months, it is one of the more expensive places to eat in the area, we usually plan on spending about $120 for an appetizer, a meal for me and her, and a dessert, and then a drink each
Parking: The parking is convenient compared to a lot of places in downtown Battle Creek, a shared parking lot behind the building

My husband and I were SUPER excited to try KP, I’m a big foodie and I love supporting local businesses. We had the opportunity to dine here, and while the website said nothing about a reservation or how to make one, they made us feel VERY awkward for not having one. I mean three separate employees came up and asked us if we had one and we explained we didn’t see where it was needed on the website, they said “yeah, well most people call.” in a condescending way. Like ok, we’re sorry? Lol. Anyway the food was phenomenal. We ordered the hummus for our starter, and I had the chicken marsala and my husband had the salmon. The Marsala was so rich and delicious and the salmon my husband had was full of flavor. Would have loved to give a perfect 5 but wasn’t expecting to feel awkward af lol
I came here with a friend to give it another shot. We made a reservation this time! I was very excited to take my friend and the food was less than impressive. I got the bone in ribeye and asked for it to be cooked medium. It was severely under cooked and the brussel sprouts were so crunchy they were inedible. Also the plating was horrendous. I understand I got a large steak but it was literally a huge chunk of meat just thrown on the plate. My friend had the Alfredo with chicken and the chicken was so so so dry. Unfortunately we will not be going back to KP.

Restaurantji Recommends
New York quality in downtown Battle Creek.
Kitchen Proper is so aptly named because everything is done properly to a T. I’ve only been twice now, but everything was so spot on both times. The ingredients are so fresh, the cocktails are well balanced, the service is phenomenal. I could go on and on about how well thought out and well executed their menu is, but I’ll cut it short and say this is the best restaurant in Battle Creek, bar none.

Kitchen Proper continues to impress as one of the finer dining options in the area.
Nicely crafted menu and daily specials, well qualified staff and a limited number of tables which makes the quality and service better overall for guests.
I recommend reservations especially if you have a larger group. There are a few two-seat high tables by he kitchen which is good for better/more frequent eye contact if you need a server’s attention. Restrooms are clean/spacious. Parking on city street parking in the back or across the street is convenient. The outdoor area can get cold and out of sight for servers but is a nice option on warm days. Accessibility to the indoors can be a little challenging for folks with different abilities but the staff helps if need be.
Parking: Parking is shared with adjacent bars/restaurants it can get a little busy during peak times but it has never not been available.
Wheelchair accessibility: The restaurant is on an older building. They do their best to accommodate wheelchairs but moving around is not a breeze.

Alexis was incredible, the service impeccable, we enjoyed every dish especially the MUSSELS YOU MUST GET THE MUSSELS. Peach cheesecake is going to win over anyone even if you dont love cheesecake you will LOVE this one. Ribeye was cooked perfectly as was the pork chop. You will never regret having dinner here
