Houndstooth was a great experience and I highly recommend that you stop and give it a try! Every dish felt perfect and well thought out. Service was prompt and exceptional. Portion sizes were well balanced and well worth any $ amount. Come check this place out for a nice night out! I will definitely be coming back!

We were really looking forward to dining here. Based on the online reviews and the higher-end pricing on the menu, we expected a standout experience. Unfortunately, what we encountered didn’t live up to the hype and left us disappointed.

A breakdown of our visit:

- The space is quite small, which in itself isn’t necessarily a problem - but the layout packs diners in tightly, making the environment feel more crowded than intimate. It was difficult to have a relaxed conversation without overhearing the tables around us.

- Service was a major letdown. The staff seemed stretched thin and almost robotic, likely because of how busy the place was. No one was rude, but it felt like they were just going through the motions. We weren’t greeted warmly, and there was very little follow-up once we were seated. For a restaurant that clearly aims to be in the upscale category, that lack of attentiveness was a little surprising.

- Timing was an issue across the board. It took about 15–20 minutes just to get two drinks - and oddly, they didn’t even arrive at the same time. One showed up, and the second came about 5–10 minutes later with no explanation. The food was similarly slow to arrive, and since our server barely checked in, we were left wondering what was happening. It created a sense of disconnection and impatience that lingered through the meal.

- As for the food, the main reason we were excited to try this place - it just didn’t deliver. We ordered two small plates and one large plate, hoping to sample a bit of everything. Sadly, none of it stood out. The flavors were muted, the presentation was fine but nothing memorable, and there wasn’t a bite that made us feel like the visit was worth it. For the price point, we expected a lot more creativity or at least something that felt well-executed. Instead, the dishes were.. unremarkable.

In the end, the entire experience felt like a mismatch between expectation and execution. There’s clearly ambition at this spot, between the menu, the pricing, and the branding - all suggesting a premium dining experience. But the reality didn’t reflect that. Between the long waits, lackluster service, and average food, I just didn't feel like the online review accurately reflected the general quality of this place.

I sure hope people in this area realize what a gem of a restaurant is in their backyard. I grew up here but live in Atlanta, and if Houndstooth were there, we would be dining here weekly. What an outstanding dinner. We tried six dishes for the three of us, and it was plenty of food. The flavors & creativity were of the charts. We had the shrimp, carrots, bread/butter (not your basic bread), kale salad & Lamb. See menu.

Possibly the best restaurant in Southwest Michigan. Blew my socks off. Loved the sunchoke/buratta dish and the short rib tartare.

We had a wonderful evening at Houndstooth! We had two seats at the bar - it’s set up like a chef’s table, so you can see up close the thought and care that is put into every dish. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious! Steak tartare, kale salad, carrots, halibut and steak - all out of this world! Great craft cocktails, and fantastic service!

This is, hands down, the best dinner spot in Southwest Michigan. We are so blessed to have this gem in our small town. Cheyanne and her amazing team bring locally sourced food to fine (Chicago level) dining.
Whether you’re sitting at the counter (my personal fave) watching all the delicious dishes being prepared, you’re on a date and want to be together at a table, or you love Michigan summers and sit outside, you won’t be disappointed.
This is truly a dining experience that I highly recommend!!
10/10 every time!!
Enjoy!!

I’ve been coming to Houndstooth for years, and it’s hands-down one of my favorite places in town. The food is always incredible — fresh, creative, and their ever-changing menu means there’s always something new to try. They also have iconic staples on the menu that you can count on every time — comforting favorites that never disappoint.

I especially love their seasonal desserts — they always have something special that’s the perfect sweet ending to a meal. The drinks are just as amazing — thoughtfully crafted and a great complement to the food.

The vibe is fantastic too. The staff are so friendly and welcoming — it really does feel like you’re part of a big family when you’re there. There’s always good music playing, which just adds to the warm atmosphere. And when the weather’s nice, their patio is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy it all.

Great food, iconic staples, delicious seasonal desserts, amazing drinks, friendly people, good music, and a patio for those perfect days — Houndstooth really has it all. Couldn’t recommend it more!

Booked reservation over a week in advance. Service was terribly slow, drinks and kitchen were backed up for a Tuesday night. Waited hour and forty five minutes, with fifteen minutes between each small plate. Drinks were okay, food tasted good but was not worth the price point, especially considering the abismal service.

Great food with great service. You should call ahead and get a table. There is a patio in the summer, but mostly small groups during the off-season. Duck was amazing, and honestly, everything was good. The menu rotates so if you like something, check the current menu.
