My son treated me to The Blue Cow a little bit ago & recommended the champagne chicken with Risotto & I will definitely get it again! Very good!
We both had the perch. Food was excellent. Waiter Tony NOT!! Brought us gin martinis, ordered vodka, then disappeared. Had to ask another waiter for help. We finally got our drinks and he had some witty comment about his mix up and said he would bring silverware and took our order for dinner. He returned with the food and he asked how the drinks were and we said fine and ordered two more. Had to ask for silverware, which took 6-7 minutes while staring at our food. Never got the second drinks. Then he was a ghost. Food was long finished and we were left sipping our water, which was never refilled. He finally brought the bill and apologized because he was busy with a table inside. There were only six tables occupied the whole time we were there, one six top two four tops and two tops. Other waiter was very attentive to other table (6) on patio. Very frustrating.
We came here after riding the nearby White Pine trail. We had a variety of small plates and appetizers. We were a group of 7. The waitress was good, food was hot and the variety was nice. We were seated outside. Would definitely come back again.
Blue Cow Cafe in Big Rapids MI is a must for delicious and artistic meals! Treat your pallet to wonderful and flavorful food! From appetizers, to soups/salads, main entrées, and deserts, the savory flavors will not disappoint. I have eaten there twice and have had wonderful experiences both times. The service is excellent the food absolutely delicious, a hidden gem…definitely try it out!
Lovely restaurant in downtown big rapids. We ordered the special appetizer which was an Asian dip. It was ok. Nothing special but the chips they served with it were great and I wish we had more because it wasn't enough for all the dip. We got a salad and a main to share. The salad was good but the main was excellent. We got the lemon whitefish with risotto which was fantastic. We told them we were splitting it and they plated our portions separately. The asparagus was perfectly cooked, the fish was lovely and flavorful, and the risotto was creamy and delicious. The young woman serving us was lovely. She was the only one working so she was very busy but she did great. She was attentive and kind. Also, they use the good ice there. I love the good crunchy ice!
The Whitefish along with the risotto and fresh vegetables was great. My husband's blackened salmon was also tasty. Great, quiet atmosphere where we could easily talk and linger undisturbed with our Grand Rapids friends who we met there.
Dietary restrictions: Gluten free was available.
Parking: Great art work and decorating.

Average, everything was average. Don't set expectations high. It was not busy, but service was terrible. I ordered wine to go with my entree, it didn't arrive until dessert. We had the whitefish, Cesar salad, perch, and thai curry w/ chicken. Everything needed salt, very bland. Our waiter was no where to be found to request it either. Thai curry was heavy on the peanut butter, almost too much. We ordered hummus for appetizer, best part of the meal. Then we tried the brownie sundae, vanilla gelato, & creme brulee for dessert. The gelato lacked the texture of gelato... so doubtful if it truly was. We've been to Italy and had it there... so maybe not fair to compare. Portion sizes were decent. Creme brulee and brownie were delicious. I cannot recommend Blue Cow, but I highly recommend Antlers in Stanwood! Worth the drive from Big Rapids.
Only two tables being waited on and it took 45 minutes for our food. Fillet was sent back twice due to being over cooked. The augratin potatoes were dry, not good at all and barely warm. These is prebaked and microwaved. They consisted of layers of sliced potatoes and topped with a white cheese. Then, hoping to salvage the potatoes we asked some butter since they were more like baked potatoes than au gratin. They don't have regular butter only a garlic butter blend for their bread. Same thing with the squash blend that comes with the meal. If fresh, they would have been tasty but ours were cold. Literally cool to the touch. $50 plus for a steak and/ or a 8 ounce fillet and it's just not worth stopping here. No bread or salad included in these meals. We were highly disappointed. If you've got a cook who can't correctly cook a steak to medium rare, you are losing money. This fillet was tough from being so over cooked.

The Blue Cow may benefit from knowing that Restaurants seeking to be considered “High End”, do not serve their customers unopened, steamed mussels, or quibble when shown that their online menu prices are lower than their in-house menu prices. An insincere apology does little to correct the situation. Responsible businesses are pleased to offer an appropriate compensation for the inconvenience. The local McDonalds is far better at customer service. Eating out should be a hassle free experience. We won’t be frequenting the Blue Cow any time soon.
We made res. As soon as they opened. Noone answered so we left a message and asked for a confirmation for 5 at 5pm. No respond so called back and were told 6:15 was the earliest. Got there on time and the restaurant was almost empty. We're seated..Noone came for 15 min. Then our waiter told us he'd be back in 5 min to take our orders.15 min later he came back for our drink order. Drinks came about 1/2 hour later. Ordered our meals and they came about 45 min later. The people who sat outside were continually attended to. There were only a few tables occupied inside. We should have left 10 min after we sat down. Poor service and the food wasn't the greatest. Will never go back again. Expensive and poor quality.
Excellent service and food! Amazing steaks served in a nice atmosphere with white table cloths and attentive wait staff. Expensive but totally worth it!
The atmosphere was absolutely relaxing, and the food was amazing.
