Why does it smell so delicious in here? Because the food is delicious! We enjoyed the ramen, sushi, and tonkatsu! Be sure to stop in at this local Japanese gem for some good eats! Super attentive service on top of everything!

Always love the sushi at izakaya. We travel from whitmore lake over 30 minutes aways when we want sushi just to come here. Always the freshest. Service is outstanding as well. Can't be beat!

Their house salad was literally just lettuce and a slice of tomato, hot tea served in a soup cup. Friendly staff, but no food menu posted online for

Great sushi! But I opt'd for the duck hot pot. It is excellent. Highly recommended. A Chinese friend agrees!

I have been here a bunch and I never have a bad visit. Each time I go I try to get something new that way it never gets boring. I’ve had the teriyaki salmon, I’ve had the sushi(both cooked and raw, bento boxes, and a ton of their appetizers and every time I am impressed. Not only is the food good but so is the staff. I do wish they would be open all day but aside from that, nothing but good things to say about this place!

The food was delicious. I got the Shoyu ramen. It was hot and flavorful. They give you chopsticks and a spoon with the dish. If you want they will bring you a fork. The food came out quick. The server kept checking on us.

We recommend the offal konnyaku, salted mackerel grilled fish set meal, and tempura soba.If you order a rice bowl menu, you can choose from miso soup, soba, or udon, so if you order a box of noodles at the same time as your order, you can pack what you can't eat in advance and eat it for dinner.Among the Japanese restaurants in the area, you can eat at relatively reasonable prices, and they also have a wide selection of banquet dishes, so it's a boon for Japanese employees who miss Japanese food.

Phenomenal experience. The Shoyu ramen was great and the staff were very polite and accommodating. The atmosphere of the restaurant feels like it was pulled straight from a legit sushi/ramen shop in Japan.I plan on making this place my go-to for Japanese cuisine.

Summary: food is ok; free parking; service is not too impressive; make sure you verify the price of the “daily special” before you order; charge 18% tip on the entire bill without your agreement; wait staff is not knowledgeable about how their food is prepared. My wife and I had dinner in this restaurant. It was quite busy when we stepped in. And we were greeted and seated momentarily. One of the entries we ordered is the “duck hot pot”. I also ordered sake and sashimi with the recommendation of the wait staff.Overall impression: 1. The food and drink were ok but the service was truly substandard. Wait staff appear impatient and indifferent to us. They are all seem to be quite busy, with no attention on what we need. 2. They recommend pricy sashimi to us without informing us the price. 3. They charge 18% tip on our entire bill, including sake wine, appetizer, main entry “the hot pot”, side dish etc. When I ask them if they charge this tip on every tables, they said only on the “hot pot” customers and it’s their “policy”. Correct me if I am wrong, this is the first and only restaurant in US that ever charges tip for two-people dinning!! I typically pay 20% tip for all my dine-in but this is the first time I was ever charged tip without my agreement. It’s truly terrible experience!!! 4. The wait staff failed to describe how the food was prepared, probably they just want to stay away from us during dining and come back to collect tip at the end!

Wow what a wonderful surprise this place was! Located in a strip mall, it looks pretty unassuming from the outside. But walking in, the space transformed and opened up way more than I was expecting. Decor and ambiance were nice, fair to call it izakaya vibes. Had a reservation at 6pm on a Saturday with family, and we were immediately seated. Think reservations would definitely be a good idea - it was busy and there were people waiting for a table when we left. The menu is extensive and gives you a lot of options for how you want to shape your meal. Can do family style or individual. For our party of 4, we ended up sharing everything: - Yakitori (4): Delicious! Each skewer is tiny so we ordered four so everyone could have their own. So much flavor. - Ninnikume Itami (stir-fried garlic sprouts with pork): A favorite! Love ramps and it's rare to see them on menus (especially in January haha) - Kurobuta Misozukeyaki (miso marinated black pork): Marinated thinly sliced pork over a bed of dressed raw onions. Also so flavorful. - Bento Box: This was huge. Loved the crispy shrimp tempura and agedashi tofu in this. - Sushi Rolls! Namesake Sanpei, Lions (Go Lions!), and Spicy Salmon all very tasty with fresh tasting fish. All in all, we were stuffed and very impressed with the meal. Looking forward to coming back and trying their hot pot, shabu shabu, or sukiyaki next time! Some other tables had them and they looked impressive and very good.

Authentic Japanese food! Great service and fairly reasonably priced. This place is always busy! Hotpot and soups are a must try. All the cooked fish are quite good also.
