Under new ownership but still delivering delicious ramen! If you are a fan of authentic Japanese food, this is the place to try.

Not worth it after the new change in ownership, unfortunately. Menu is less than half of what they used to offer. Prices are doubled. The ramen i got was less than half the portion you used to get. Ramen was not great. No nori, no beansprouts. Egg was cold in the middle. Not worth $16. A real shame.

Small (6 or 7 small tables) Japanese restaurant that has a great selection of Ramen. The Ramen is very authentic and is a wonderful treat on cold days. The daily specials are excellent as well.

Sad update - June 2025. I understand the owner/chef retired so the restaurant is now permanently closed.

June 23. Mats Chan has remodeled and reopened. Fewer ramen options. But great to see the upgraded interior.

I was so sad to hear about Matsuchan going under new management as my boyfriend and I have enjoyed eating here under the previous owners. We didn’t want to totally base our experience off of the previous owners, but it’s hard not to because of how tasty, comfortable, and affordable it was. I will start off with the customer service. I think the customer service was pretty much the same and it’s kinda hard not to give good customer service because we were the only customers dining in.

As you can see in the two pictures above, there is a big difference compared to the last picture which is from the previous owners which I was disappointed about. There is a considerable difference in size, quantity, and quality. I ordered the shoyu Ramen and I thought the broth was very salty. and I was a little disappointed because the noodles were skinny and even though I do love buckwheat noodles they were undercooked. The meat was really dry as well, which I was disappointed about and I really love green onion, excess green onion. And they charged extra for that. This ramen is almost 18-20 depending on if you want any extra ingredients. The price and quantity difference is insane.

I was also disappointed because they took away the chili oil and if you wanted a spicy soup you had to pay a whole dollar extra. Compared to the last owners there was also a large Ramen selection, but now their menu consist of only three different types of Ramen to order.

Also I’m not sure why but halfway through a dining experience it smelled really bad inside the restaurant.

Obviously, I know that there won’t be another great affordable Ramen place like the old owners, and I wish the new owners all the best .

Under new ownership, the old chef elected to retire. The restaurant has a fresh coat of paint, new flooring, and other updates, making the restaurant much brighter. The new simplified menu has 3 ramen choices, and a dozen each of sushi rolls and poke bowls. The prices have also been updated.

i have been coming here for years, and i loved it. now the owner has changed but the name has stayed the same. the prices have increased and the portions have gotten smaller. i used to need help to finish a whole bowl of ramen. and the flavors have changed, the noodles are very different, there are no longer as many toppings in the ramen as well. keep your expectations realistic if you have been coming here for years before the change.

While still the same name, the shop is under new ownership with new recipes and menu. I prefer the new tonkatsu broth flavor, but portion sizes are smaller than they used to be. The interior feels much less crowded because they removed a lot of the old wall covering and painted walls white and uncovered the windows. It does lack its old charm, but I prefer not feeling stuffed in tin can. The new staff is very friendly. Overall, I'm happy with my experience.

You can taste the love for food in every bite. No matter if it's just a cup of tea, or a whole dish. And the specials! Always worth trying.

Worse service. We went there last winter and the waitress told us to wait outside and away of the roofed area when it was snowing.

The california roll was warm, sour, had no cucumber the gyoza was grainy and tasted like mystery meat. The water tasted like sesame. The atmosphere felt very run down and made me think I was getting food poisoning, but the waiter was nice.
