The atmosphere makes this place pop! The history and the furnishings take you back in time whether you drive or pull your boat up to the long dock space, you will have a good time!

Really cool building with lots to look at inside. Had high hopes. Table of 8 of us. I felt I had to apologize to everyone for the bad experience, since it was my idea to go there for dinner.
Waiter was rude and never present. He insisted we must be all on one bill, which is fine, but then wouldn't provide a detailed receipt. I may have double tipped, who knows?!
The best dish was the calamari, and only because it was swimming in sauce.
Big time bummer!

Have dinner and drinks at your grandma’s cabin on lake. Food and drinks are great for the area (meaning, if you’re from a big city then it’s a bit above average. If you’re from this area then it’s top of the list). Food is great and drinks are poured heavy (instant 5 stars in my book). Great atmosphere and staff.

The decor, history, and ambiance is very unique and what makes Hack-Ma-Tack worth the trip. For the cost, if I were local and to come back I would enjoy some drinks and appetizers at the bar and take in what is worth the visit without paying for the cost of dinner which we were not floored by. I love visiting old institutions like this and am very glad they still exist, if that isn't your thing, a trip based purely on the cuisine taste/ quality to cost ratio alone may be a pass.

NEED RESERVATIONS, says recommended. NOT TRUE. restaurant was empty. She said possibly at 730..
This restaurant is a gem! The building itself is old with tons of character, and it adds so much charm to the dining experience. One of the highlights is being able to watch the food being prepared, such a fun and unique touch.
While the menu is quite limited, at least the spring menu, we still were able to make a few selections that we did not regret.
I had the house specialty salad, and it was an absolute treat. Without a doubt, it was one of the freshest salads I’ve ever had. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients.
My only regret? Not trying the strawberry shortcake. It looked amazing, and I’ll look forward to trying that next time!
Very beautiful location, combined with a truly unique atmosphere. Same owner for 45 years, who takes great pride in the establishment. The drinks from the bar were very good, and the food tasty. Everyone visiting northern Michigan should make sure to visit this authentic gem.
