I’ve loved this place for years and have been a regular, but lately I’ve noticed a disturbing trend. Multiple waitresses are bussing dirty glasses by grabbing them on the rim, then serving clean drinks the exact same way—without handwashing in between. It’s such a basic rule in food service: never touch the rim where customers sip. Yet this has become common practice, and I’ve actually gotten sick multiple times after visiting.

It’s incredibly disappointing to see this happening more often at a place I’ve always enjoyed. Management (who I have confidence in) needs to immediately retrain staff on proper hygiene before this becomes a full-blown health code violation. This is a systemic problem here, not just a few isolated incidents. I'd love to come back in a few weeks, see improvement, and change this to a 5 star review.

The Sneak

I’ve been to Renshaw at least 50 times over the years, usually very good experiences, but last night however (Sunday 07/28/25) was the absolute worst of the worst of experiences. 1st, we sat at a booth and we waited for at least 20 minutes with no one coming to greet us, even knowing a server had went to the booth in front of us 2 separate times while we had been sitting there (You could tell the elderly couple at that booth were also frustrated with the service as they were getting up out of the booth and looking towards the bar area wondering what was going on and shaking their heads in dissatisfaction). We eventually moved to a bar top and were greeted in what I would say a “somewhat reasonable” time frame. The server while not rude per se, was lacking any type of personality and would walk away from the table before I had even finished my sentence when I was speaking to her. When our food came out it went to another table in front of us (they looked surprised because they had ordered probably 15 minutes after us and were asking each other at the table “who ordered this?”) and the things that came out with that order made it obvious it had been our order as that table did not touch them and our order was very specific. Then to top things off, my soft drink had been empty for both trips that the server had came to our table and I had to specially ask her for a refill as she was walking away and after I had already finished half of my meal. The icing on the cake however had to be how obnoxiously loud the music was inside. I had to yell across my table because the music was so loud everyone in the bar had to be even louder to be heard. Fun fact: turn the music down and maybe everyone else won’t have to yell making it a more enjoyable experience all around. Friday and Saturday, I can “kind of understand” but Sunday at midnight, come on, give the heavy metal, double bass drumming, death metal a rest!

Just when I thought I’ve been to every restaurant in Clawson, I find one more to explore. Apparently this place has been here since the 1960s, but I never even noticed it until I did some exploring on Yelp. On the positive side, the service was good and the menu is huge. There are more TVs than any one human could watch, but the music was a bit loud. The photos on Yelp definitely give a dive bar vibe, but it was actually nicer than I expected and there were several facilities there the night we visited.

As for the food, I’ll admit that our order of a calzone, mac and cheese and a Caesar salad was pretty basic, so in fairness, it’s probably not a surprise that we were not that impressed with the food.

Well, the service was OK. I think she could’ve been a little bit more around to ask us if we needed anything plus when the food came out, my husband‘s cheeseburger there was no burger, just the bread and the veggies in the fries. They did catch it though and took care of the issue before we noticed, but my dish took a long time to come the other guest with me all their food and everybody came out the same time except for mine.

We just ate here and had Rochelle as a server. I cannot say enough great things about this place. I had the Nashville hot chicken sandwich and it was the best I've ever had. My 3 year old son wasn't super hungry and still devoured the Mac n cheese and my husband loved the smash burger. The drinks were great, and we just loved everything. Thank you, Rochelle!

Solid place to go for a bite and a beer. They have a sizable food & beer menu. The staff is friendly as well though it appears that they only hire female wait staff & bartenders.
