After dinner during our Labor Day trips we stop at Marion's almost nightly. From the homemade drum sticks to the waffle cones to my favorite Boston Cooler ( extra thick ). It's a treat for an end of summer trip.
It's gotten a tad pricey. I'm not gonna lie. Four of us. Two waffle cones. A small Boston Cooler and a shake was $25. The place is a quaint old fashion decor ice cream parlor. Staff ( gentlemen at the window is all business ) good when busy, they moved the line quickly.
I see reviews that speak of and I agree 1000%. To announce and put someone on the spot for tipping scoopers is uncomfortable ! Everything is tip these days. Its shoved in our faces. Some justifiable. Most not ! ( Fast food for example ).
That knocked a star off for me. There's a better way to present the idea of tipping the scoopers then shouting it in our faces ! By our house downstate. They have a picture board of the activities they do with there employees with tip money and so on. Show kids going to colleges and things. They do not announce " would you like to add a tip for our scoopers ? ". And you sitting there feeling obligated to spend even more for those four items pushing the bill to $30.
So. Even though we go almost nightly. We may take a walk down the street. I'm sure we will be back as the items we ordered were quite tasty. But there are also other options to maybe get some fudge and ice cream at the same time. :)

Wish the kids could go in and see the flavors. Bummer! Also, I couldn’t believe the price tag on the small serving sizes.
ETA: we mentioned wanting to go in to the cashier and they did not offer it.

Ice cream flavor and variety were very good. Home made waffle cones were tasty, but just a bit thin. We will come back. I got a kid size and it was plenty.

Unfortunately, I accidentally overlooked the tip jar, and got a very loud ‘Wow, you’re going to stiff them…’
Very unprofessional, and there is no need to embarrass a patron who just spent $30 on ice cream. I told the guy taking orders that I didn’t mean to miss the tip, but he didn’t have to embarrass me, and he said, “that’s the way we do it here.” I’ll skip Marion’s next time. All I needed was a ‘Would you like to provide a tip to help our young servers out?’

I went here with my family and although the ice cream was good, we will not be here again. After we ordered the man at the register asked if we would like to tip and my dad politely declined. The man then proceeded to say “Oh no tip for the kids, I will let them know that.” My sister and I have both worked for tips and we would never expect anyone to leave one let alone be rude to someone who doesn’t. I would instead recommend paying your staff more! They deserve it.
Edit: the reality of tips is that they are optional! I would recommend Tawas Bay Fudge down the street for great ice cream & an even better attitude :)
We make sure to always stop here when we are in Tawas and get a scoop of Superman icecream.

Great place overall. The atmosphere felt just like I was in the 50s, the ice cream was amazing, and the service was quick and friendly. I recommend the Michigan Black Bear, Michigan Pothole, or their signature Superman. Dipped cones are available in cherry and chocolate. Topping are available as well, and you can even ask them for a candy face on your ice cream! Ice cream isn't the only thing there, though. Banana splits, Dole Whip, and Pup Cups (whipped cream topped with a Milk Bone for the pets to enjoy) are served too. The interior is cool, but not actually for ordering. You can sample the flavors, play a jukebox or a game they have in there, or look at the collection of pop bottles and cases from the 40s to the 2000s. You order outside, and as such the menu is outside. Fair warning, if you want one scoop, don't order a single, order a kid-size. There are four sizes, Baby (1/2 scoop), Kid (1 scoop), Single (2 scoops), and Double (3 scoops.) When in town, this is a MUST TRY.

This place is great. We visited 3 ice cream places during our week on vacation in Tawas. This was by far our favorite.
