Never got to actually stay here because the event planner would not return our inquiries. My friend who currently lives overseas wanted to have a small event here when she was home this summer and reached out to ask for information, and never got a response. She asked me to give them a call since I live here, and when I called and mentioned my friend hadn't gotten a reply, rather than being issued an apology, they said, "Do you even want to be transferred then?". I still opted for it, because it was my friends event, not mine (if it was mine, I would've stopped trying right there). I left a message on 2/21/2025 and as of the date I am writing this review, 3/24/2025, I have not received a single form of communication from this hotel or the lady who manages their events. My friend has not gotten a response either, and she reached out several weeks before me. I suggest rather than wasting time trying to contact this hotel, and losing out on other event spots because you're waiting weeks for a response, you skip the idea of this place altogether. Hopefully they get a better event planner who actually does their job!

Update 3/25/2025: I received 2 phone calls from them today and did not answer them because 1) she already booked a venue she is happy with and 2) I am not changing this review. Only returning calls when you get bad reviews isn’t exactly a good form of business. My friend had really wanted her event in Tawas on the beach (the booked venue is not on a beach), so while it's disappointing she won't be doing business with Tawas Bay Beach Resort, she is sticking to her guns about being ignored by this business that she wanted to give her money to.

The front desk staff are not too friendly. It felt like a bother to ask for towels. We rented two connecting rooms, and every time one of us would get towels for everybody, it felt like we were being questioned as if we were sneaking people into the hotel. After you're done with the pool, hopefully your room is not as far away as mine was. Otherwise your kids will be very cold walking back because the towels have to be turned into the front desk when you are done. Not somewhere in the pool area conveniently to just leave it, but have to be returned to the front desk as if you just rented a vehicle. The rooms do not have a microwave but were clean. Decent room overall. Next time I visit I will most likely be choosing a different location. Didn't really care for being questioned every time I went to the front desk as if I was a criminal lol

We stayed here two nights in January. The service desk lady who helped me was very nice, however the other lady who was helping an elderly couple was extremely rude. I also noticed this same employee speak to another customer on the phone with very little patience as well as act annoyed about people getting breakfast as she was seemingly the only one working to restock. Breakfast is continental and does have a microwave, and waffle maker. The pool was absolutely ice cold, take your breath away cold. Hot tub was nice, and the sauna didn't work- at all. The workout room consisted of a very old, loud treadmill and a stationary bike. That was it. Clean rooms with housekeeping that seemed happy- it was just the one receptionist who was a rather unhappy employee. The fireplace, water fountain and couches provided a lovely place to lounge. Would recommend getting some games though for people to play, or even a puzzle would be great.

Front desk was ok, wait staff another story. Never seem enthused to be there, not sure why. Hotel is definitely on the decline, too bad. In decades past it was much better. A bitter attitude prevails.

Ordered food prior to a comedy show. I will never ever eat there again. Ordered bacon wrapped shrimp. The bacon was cooked, but the shrimp was raw. Bit into a bacon wrapped shrimp and immediately thought the texture was weird and it wasn't hot. Spit it out and took a look at the other half of the shrimp on my plate and it was raw, still gray in color. Not cooked! So disgusting. The bartender couldn't remember or comprehend anything. Initially ignored us, after about 10 minutes, finally acknowledged us and we ordered 2 beers. She went about washing glasses and waiting on another couple, chit chatting with them. Came back around and asked if we'd like to order a drink. OMG woman, we ordered 10 minutes ago, just waiting on you to get your head out of your ass. This place is located at an awesome Lake Huron water front location. It's beautiful, but the people running the hotel and restaurant clearly do not care about their guests and patrons. I do not recommend. Enter at your own risk!

The restaurant has gone downhill since the new manager took over and changed distributors!

We will never eat there again. Not only did we receive bad service, which I can understand if they are understaffed, but there is no reason to serve undercooked raw shrimp. We ordered bacon wrapped shrimp. I cut into and took a bite without looking at it first. Immediately thought the texture was weird and spit it out. It was raw. The bartender had it removed from the bill. The rest of the food was ok, but we didn't have much of an appetite after chewing on raw shrimp. Service is slow and employees don't seem to know their jobs, or want to make corrections to menu items they rang in incorrectly. Verify your bill before paying. Very disappointing.

the beach resort refused to work with the red cross to put a family up after their house burnt down , this family lost everything only made it out with what they had on . they lost a fur baby in the fire . & the one thing they should not have had to worry about was a place to sleep ! the people that work there are beyond heartless & you couldn't pay me enough to stay there !!

Tawas Bay Beach Resort was a very nice, clean hotel. I stayed 4 nights, during the winter. The rooms were nice, and clean. The staff were friendly and responsive. I would have given them 5 stars, except their hot tub was not fully functional The entire time I was there. There sauna functioned the first night, but was not functional the remaini.g 3 nights. And, the pool, though said to be heated, was very cold (didn't seem as if it was heated). For a resort, all 3 of these things having an issue isn't a good thing. The food in the restaurant and bar was very good - we ate dinner there twice. The bar was fun - had sports (Lions v. Packers game) and karaoke, and the drinks were fabulous (good size and taste for the price). I would definitely stay here again, but preferably in the summer when I can walk outside of the hotel and step out onto the shore of Lake Huron (which I had a beautiful view of from my room).
