Best Indian food in southeast Michigan, by far. Really good South Indian vegetarian food, made with fresh vegetables and subtle spices that are mixed with intention. The spicy dishes have good heat that augments the flavors of the ingredients and the chef does not drown his dishes in grease like so many Indian restaurants do in the US. They have a large selection of dosas, vada that is crispy and brown on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and idli that is perfect for sopping up the chef’s hearty sambar. The weekend buffet is always filled with good dishes, and they keep everything fresh and well stocked. If you choose to order from the menu ask the very helpful and attentive staff to recommend something and you’ll be happy.

I’ve eaten in many restaurants in Chennai and would stack Chutney’s up against the best of them. Enjoy!

Updated Oct, 2025: Just got back from a super delicious buffet lunch and realized I should have left a review after last week's amazing special Diwali lunch buffet. The chef here is amazing: what he does with fresh vegetables and spices! We are looking forward to this year's holiday buffets: Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. See you there!

Amazing vegetarian food. We eat here regularly, particularly the Sunday buffet. The staff is very friendly, and other customers are as well. We’ve even been shown how to assemble certain Indian street food. Highly recommend.

Tandoori roti tasted old and reheated instead of freshly made — not what I expected from this place. Needs improvement

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The service was extremely poor and disorganized from start to finish. Despite arriving on time, we had to wait far longer than expected just to be seated, and even longer for our order to be taken. The staff seemed overwhelmed and there was no proper crowd management, which made the atmosphere chaotic and stressful.

For a place that claims to serve authentic South Indian food, I expected much better hospitality and efficiency. Unfortunately, the lack of attention to customers and the long wait times overshadowed the meal itself. Definitely not worth the frustration.

I wouldn’t recommend chutneys restaurant to anyone, Please do not go 🙏🙏 Food is very average, buffet options are very ordinary. Their dessert had only Semiya Payasam which is not any special we all make it at home on any small occasion other than this all you get is cold chutney, stale dosas no potato bhaji to go with it, stone hard idlys and manchuris, tasteless curries this is all you get for paying $20 bucks per head on a buffet! Unreasonable, Pls do not waste your money and time on this restaurant!!!

Visited this place yesterday for lunch buffet. This place needs lot of improvements. I'm not going back.

First remove that old crappy mat at entrance door and clean up that area, make it more welcoming.

Food is sub-par. Dosas are stale and dry without the alu curry. Other curries are not so flavorful. Rice is just one variety, no tamarind or biryani. Food refills are not on time. For 90 min of our stay just saw the same food in trays in small quantities... there is no vibe of freshness expected. Didn't even try the desert, completely turned off by then. Had to flag the girl even for water refill.

Napkins need to be at each table in a self-serve place, not just at one location by plates.

For a sub-par vegetarian buffet, $20 per head is pricey. They also added credit card fee to the bill, who does this? If you want to do this, be honest upfront. There is no clear bill presented, just the girl shows up with the mobile device that does not show any details. In addition, a minimum tip option of 18% on the screen is presented, that too for a self service buffet. All in all $27 for each buffet is not worth it for the food and service at this place....there are lot of other buffets that are better IMO. Even non-veg buffets are not this expensive. On the way out, typically saunf/mouth freshener is common which is missing here.

Hopefully owner takes these reviews bit seriously and improves.

Food and management are good, but customers need to watch their bills carefully. For the second time, a server added 20–25% tip directly to my bill without asking. This is not acceptable. Tips should be left to the customer, not forced onto the bill. Management really needs to address this as it feels dishonest.

The owner is a very honest man . He refunded my money when I requested him to as the food was not delivered due to a confusion .
Appreciate his honesty and decent gesture. I believe it’s important for a hotelier.

Tasty vada, onion rava dosa, gobi65 and mango lassi. Idli and chutneys were ok but Idli and vada were pricey.

Had the weekend breakfast buffet . The electricity in that area failed . Hence could not really complete the course . Puri bhaji & Chai was good. . Could not try the dosas because the kitchen shut down lack of electricity .
