had the misfortune to eat at Pastaio Handmade Pasta last night. This was my first and last experience with this restaurant. Even though I had made reservations for 5 at 6:30,they seated us at the worst table, right next to the door, freezing everyone at the table, including my poor 95-year-old mother. Every time someone walked in or out, we were greeted with a freezing gust of wind. I couldn’t ask for another table because they were full. The waiter was extremely rude and took our order grudgingly, including our dietary restrictions. My mom had to ask for silverware and a napkin. Our entrees took over an hour and were only delivered after we asked for them. My pasta(gluten-free) was dry, and when I asked for some sauce, he grumbled under his breath. Half of our meals were lukewarm, and I suspect they sat at the window for a long time. The manager said it took 17 minutes to cook our meals. My friend had ordered a side of pasta, which he forgot, and then he brought it with cheese, which my friend explicitly asked for there to be no cheese. She sent it back, and he rudely said, “He couldn’t remember everything.” The manager said the waiter forgot to put in our order, and the waiter said he did put it in. When I didn’t ask for a takeout box for my meal, he said under his breath, “Jesus Christ, now what!” Worst of all is that the waiter and the manager blamed each other. We were given a 25% discount on our meals, and we did not leave a tip, the first time ever. Bad service and mediocre food, what a disappointment!

Pastaio is a wonderful addition to the Grosse Pointe dining scene. The space feels warm, inviting, and thoughtfully designed—perfect for a relaxed night out that still feels a little special. The food was delicious, with so many great options that make it hard to choose just one favorite. Everything we ordered was beautifully prepared and full of flavor.
I also loved seeing a well-thought-out mocktail menu. It’s such a nice touch and something that feels very current and inclusive—whether you’re not drinking that night or just want something fun and intentional beyond water or soda.
One of my favorite features of the space is the semi-private area in the back. It’s ideal for hosting—intimate enough to feel special, but still connected to the energy of the restaurant. You can tell this is a place designed with gathering in mind, which I always appreciate.

I went here with my parents, my FIL and SIL for my hubby's birthday dinner. I am still bummed the location in RO closed.
Ordered a large Italian salad, side Kale Caesar salad, spaghetti primavera, gnocchi Romano, chicken tutto fresco, Langosta lobster scallop special with arrabiata sauce, pumpkin agnolloti mascarpone ravioli. $189.67
The house Italian bread with EVOO and Parmesan cheese is good, even after 3 plates of it.
They don’t have the pizza funghi, as the RO location used to and it was quite good too. Bummer.
We are seated in the back, better for conversations.
The Italian salad is a colorful blend and tastes good. The Caesar is decent.
Arrabiata sauce is good. The lobster and scallops was maybe a bit overcooked, still not bad. Garlic slices are good. Good heat.
The gnocchi is good, soft bites.
Pasta primavera was good, lots of spinach and tomatoes.
The chicken tutto is good. The waiter halved the plate for my FIL and his girlfriend.
The agnotti pumpkin mascarpone ravioli was yummy.

The 1st time I went was amazing. 2nd time, not so much... same table, same staff, same order. The bread still awesome, gnocchi top-notch, but the eggplant in the rollatini was breaded & fried this time & like rubber. Seriously could not cut with the butter knife. Also, I had to take lid off toilet & bend rod so that it would flush. All that said, I would try again, order differently & use the other stall.

This was hands down the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. Waited over an hour for our reserved table, while walk ins were seated immediately. Yelled at by the bartender when we tried to order drinks. Staff was clearly overworked and unprepared for a busy night. The server also snapped at us for ordering drinks like it was some huge imposition. But the kicker was when they came back to the table and whisked away my food because they “forgot” to tell the kitchen about my food allergy!! Thankfully I hadn’t eaten any yet or I’d have become very sick. So, I got to sit there for 30 minutes while the rest of my party ate their dinner and mine was wrapped up to go home with me.
If you are looking for a place to celebrate or enjoy a nice night out, go elsewhere. Pastaio was a major disappointment.
Showed up for our 6:30pm reservation. We were told the tables were not turning over and our table would not be available for an hour. Other 6:30 reservations were told the same thing. Totally unacceptable!! Left for another restaurant that knows how to manage reservations and tables.

Mouth-watering homemade pasta, delicious kale Caesar salad, chicken Marsala and more. Go early to avoid crowds and noise. Our server, Jacob, was terrific.

I placed a pickup order for the chicken picatta, and WOW WEE! It was absolutely delicious. The chicken was tender and had a nice bite to it, and the white wine lemon sauce is sublime - smooth and velvety. The tomatoes and broccoli rabe were perfectly cooked and were delicious with the sauce. I highly recommend this dish.

Well… we waited 40 minutes WITH a reservation. While we sat at the bar waiting, I waited 10 more minutes before the bartender (Bob) even took my order. Btw, he literally slid the drink to my husband (classy).
When we finally got seated, no apology or any niceties about having to wait so long, and it was 78 degrees and super uncomfortable.
Then we got our order in with Andy and he was a step up from the bartender, although he did scold us on our ordering, and I know getting separate bills can be tricky, but everyone’s bill was messed up.
The food was very good, and that helped, however I will never go back to this restaurant. I may be brave and try the one in Royal Oak. Hopefully it’s better.

We recently hosted a party for 30 people at this restaurant, and they did an amazing job! The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout the entire evening. The food was delicious, and all of our guests had a relaxing and enjoyable time. Many of them even mentioned that they plan to come back because of how fantastic the experience was.
A big thank you to the entire team for making our night so special and memorable for both us and our guests!

The design of the restaurant is modern with hardly any soft surfaces
So beware if you have hearing issues, I also wouldn’t recommend this to new couples, as it is tough to carry a conversation
Our server Kevin was pleasant and respectful he even gave us the history of chicken piccata that was a nice touch
The ravioli, kale Caesar, and garlic bread are fantastic
What a fun spot!
Prepare to eat til there is no room
