The atmosphere is very nice. The service was very good. The food was average. Our soup was lukewarm and didn’t have a lot of taste. The whitefish was good, but not anything special.

This was our first time to New York and given the previous rave, 10 star, OMG!! reviews and reputation we were very disappointed in our food. I had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy, peas and fettuccine and would measure everything to the quality of a Golden Corral buffet. The fried chicken did not include a breast but smaller pieces and if KFC chicken is given a rating of 7.5 then NY fried chicken would rate a 5.0. The mashed potatoes and gravy were nothing special and not home made. Cafeteria level food. The peas were from a frozen bag and then microwaved. What was really low class was the charge of $2 for a small piece of baguette that was not fresh and probably from the Walmart bakery. With so many excellent local bakeries in Harbor Springs and Petoskey one would think they could have better bread. My wife had some sushi and this was not very good at all. She remarked that the sushi she buys at Publix was actually much better.
New York has an excellent bar and is probably a fun place for a cocktail but the price and quality of the food leave one feel they were snookered. The service was excellent as is the ambiance but there are other much better restaurants in the area.

The New York has always been one of my absolute favorite restaurants to go to when I visit Harbor Springs! Last nights dinner was no exception. The staff here is very kind and attentive. The food is very good and there are lots of options on the menu. The wine list is very impressive (they also have beer and cocktails).
I had the half duck and my boyfriend had the fried chicken. Both were very generous portions (especially the fried chicken). We also got their bumpy cake for dessert. Perfect date night dinner location to wrap up our weekend trip. I always recommend this place to friends when they are planning to visit harbor springs and it's a must visit for me each year when I come up.

We live in northern michigan and understand tourism and busy season. This was by the far the worst service and food I have experienced in a long time. The food was mediocre at best, from the options we had as most of the menu was not available. We had a reservation for 7:30pm arrived at 7:20 and was told our table not available yet. Waited at bar and finally seated 30min from our time.
After ordering waited an hour for our meals. The service staff seemed overwhelmed and not with the best attitude.
There are limited options in Harbor Springs - I would recommend not this place on a Sunday night as they are not open mon or tues and had over ten items not available due to lack of ordering. Since the food was just “ok” I would recommend trying some place else. esp for $100 for a dinner for two people. Other places are much better.

While visiting Harbor Springs a week ago, we made sure to start our stay with a dinner at this incredible local restaurant. We took advantage of the 25% discount for early seating (before 5:30). Starting with our incredible cocktails and finishing with an order of the absolutely amazing (and very garlicky) fried chicken to go, we had a wonderful experience. Our server Matthew was attentive without hovering, taking great care of us the entire evening, offering perfect suggestions. We had oysters, caesar salads with extra anchovies (the only way to have a caesar salad), and the roasted chicken and signature whitefish. Superb! Our table afforded us a view of the park and marina across the street. The building itself is wonderful for those who love historic buildings (we do). While not all of the reviews for this restaurant are as glowing as mine, I offer my full endorsement of The New York Restaurant for an excellent dining experience in Harbor Springs!

New to this restaurant, came highly recommended but unfortunately we were underwhelmed. Service was good. Felt it was priced high for what you get and flavors were lacking. Dessert was also a miss…sorry to say we won’t be back.

First time @ The New York Restaurant. Very enjoyable dinner! Started with a so so corn chowder and a simple salad. Our main entree was the fresh swordfish (excellent sauce) and the herb roasted chicken, fingerling potatoes, balsamic onions, both delicious! Dessert was a fresh peach crisp (fantastic) with vanilla ice cream. Although the interior of this historic building is absolutely beautiful, the only issue is that the chairs are the most uncomfortable I have ever sat on for dinner.

Yes, there are still restaurants that have menus that don't include ten different burgers and pizzas but instead have a nice assortment of individual entrees that are each different. The entrees show that there are some people in the kitchen that know what they are doing in making creative and tasty entrees with delicious accompanying sauces. You can't go wrong here. It's the best restaurant in Harbor Springs. Service is great, too. Jackie did a fine job.

Absolutely the worst experience in a restaurant I have ever had. We had reservations for six people at seven o’clock. We arrived ten minutes early and were told we would seated shortly. After waiting nearly 40 minutes and watching larger parties that arrived later be seated I asked when would we be seated. The manager said that our table was occupied and they were just served desert. So I asked this is our specific table what happens if they linger until midnight?
This was also my 60th birthday which they were well aware of so no big deal. All of a sudden a table became available, the manager said they were trying to accommodate us, I agreed and said we were trying to accommodate them as well. She said that they would now not seat us and called the police.
Stay away the staff are the most arrogant and entitled individuals I have encountered. In fact, we have been coming to Harbor Springs for years, something has changed. We wont be back.
