They were dealing with greens keeper issues and mold in the greens. Were 100% honest and upfront about the issues. Beautiful views, kind staff. Asked about food and they put hotdogs in for us. Is it PHA worthy, no. Is it a great time with Beautiful views, absolutely. Limited bar / beer items and snacks available.
Loggers Trace layout and difficulty competes with some of the most prestigious courses in Michigan. The previous owner Steve did a phenomenal job designing and maintaining the course for many years. However he retired and sold the place a few years ago and apparently the new owners have had trouble finding greens keepers who know what they’re doing. The course has always played as longer/slower greens and a bit higher cut fairways and tee boxes than your normal high level club. But this year, the greens have been burnt out or diseased and the fairways are higher than an inch. It’s simple, if the new owner puts the time and money with a little tender love and care, this course would be my #1 course in the entire Northeast. Adam and Lynn are the two everyday employees you see and they are amazing with their kindness and generosity. I hope they can work with the new management and fix the current state of the course. We’ve had a vacation house in Harrisville for over 25 years and have always loved playing Loggers Trace, until our most recent round on Sunday August 11th. There’s a new owner who clearly does not care about the course. Dirt tee boxes and unplayable greens. I told them the course was in terrible shape and their response was “we’ve heard that a lot lately.” I’m very disappointed and will not be playing Loggers Trace again.
Had a great time here Adam is the best. Course is very nice and well kept!
Adam was great! Had a great time!
Adam was a great help and was very kind
Course was amazing great hospitality. Me and my 10 buddies had a great time golfing here
Good people!
Solid course! Gorgeous views of Lake Huron from some of the tee boxes. Great prices too. I’ll be back!
Course was by no means perfect but overall can’t complain. They are bringing the greens and Fairways back to how it used to be back in the day Adam the ground keeper is a fantastic guy and they just aerated the rear back nine. But overall can’t complain for the price

They must have had a rough winter up there because the greens are terrible. And they have gone so far as to paint them on one 9..
Been playing here for 20 years during the holidays. But after a few years of not being up here I am very disappointed at what the course has become. Played the back 18 today and I have to say I haven’t played more disappointing greens in my life half these 5 star reviews talking about the greens have to be bots. Tee boxes look like they haven’t been mowed in over a week, fairways are as long as most courses rough, also it took 5.5 hours for 18 holes. We were surrounded by 6 person groups and even seen a 8 person group on the front number 9 when we were leaving. This place has so much potential it’s sad what it has become.
Have been coming here for years and we enjoy our round of golf every time. Very quiet course that winds its way through the woods. Great layout and very playable. A wonderful course for the price.
If you’re looking for the quintessential up north golf experience, Logger’s Trace is the place to play. Whether you play 9 holes or a full 18, you have picturesque views of the lake with a kiss of nature at every turn. Most importantly, the staff bends over backward to ensure that your experience makes you want to visit again.
The most affordable golfing range in the Alpena area by FAR. GO HERE.
I played terribly and still had a great time.
