I had to give a minimum of one star, but would give less if i could. I associate the word ‘gay’ with inclusivity, and inclusive, this place was not. Got chastised for moving tables so our party could sit together and have a gay ole’ time. We were traveling with a 86 year old veteran on his first oversees trips EVER and the bar staff were rude, it was colder inside than out, and there was zero hospitality from the gay staff. 100% do not recommend for out -of-towners. Love it for y’all locals but not for us.

Saw the mixed reviews and figured I’d try it for myself. It’s not a “must stop” as some others have stated unless youre after novelty or want a souvenir (will admit they have pretty good shirts); it’s just a small town bar. Bartender was friendly and effective but they don’t really have menus; I got a brew and an Italian hot dog which was pretty good considering it was microwaved (you can hear the thing running in the “kitchen”). Prices were fine but higher than they should be considering the value you’re getting.
No tvs on or music playing, bit of an awkward vibe with just a few locals in there.
No real complaints, it was completely mediocre and apart from the novelty of ~Gay~ there isn’t really a point imo
I can see it being a nice stop for ORV riders as they sell beer and fuel but beyond that, meh.
**cash only but they did have an atm

Over priced drinks with poor service. Don’t seem to like paying customers.

Was sadly disappointed as I have heard it's a must stop. There were six of us and we all felt like we were a burden for stopping in for drinks and food, could basically only get beer as the bartender didn't care to make anything else, we didn't even stay to order food. Easily would have been $100 in earnings for them had we all ordered food and had some more drinks. We gladly spent it up the road though.

Unfortunately our visit to this tongue-in-cheek locale was during the COVID lockdown so they were not serving any food. I was looking forward to a meal there so that was disappointing, but not their fault. Also, as it was early June, every single mosquito in the world was flying around the U.P. so any kind of exploration was nearly impossible. Hope to make it back for a better time on my next trip up there.

Avoid this place. I had fun there about a decade ago but we went this past weekend and it was awful. Bartender was rude and seemed annoyed we were there. Bunch of locals at the bar just giving us the side eye. There was no music playing and it was awkward. We were going to spend quite a bit of money there but after being treated so poorly, we each only got one drink and then left. Way to make people feel welcome.
It's always a great time at The Gay Bar. The drink menu is outstanding.

If you like microwaved precooked burgers, it’s for you. Bartender hardly spoke. Don’t expect a quaint experience! Locals may love it but not recommended for tourist.
