So stayed here over the weekend playing a 4 round Ryder Cup with friends. I had a bit of low expectation due to some poor reviews but I went in with an open mind. I've played most of the resort courses in Michigan so I always end up comparing. This place was very decent overall. The property was mostly well maintained, grass and landscaping were tended to if you even care, but the point is aesthetically it looks good. Check in was fine, the main lodge itself is somehow quite small, not sure if it started out with fewer courses back in the day. The parking is kinda crazy. You can drop your bag which is fine, the guys and gals down there will help you right away. The parking area close to the drop is packed. There is an overflow area presumably for members but it was empty ... kinda a waste. Anyway. Ya the trek to the rooms is a bit haphazard. Not sure if it's cool to drive your vehicle up the tiny paths or not? If you have a lot of luggage or a cooler, good luck walking up from the parking area. The room itself was fine, the bed was just OK. Decor a bit dated but nothing lacking. The living room could use more seating TBH. Like there are 3 seats, was sorta an issue when visiting between cottages. Bar fridge worked and there are 2 packs of terrible coffee to get your morning bowels started. The TVs were good lots of channels. OK so. Off to the lodge again. For no real reason I totally forgot to go in the pro shop, can't even comment. Weird that I didn't poke my head in but hey we were busy. The bar and restaurant were fine, but obviously too small for the abundance of golfers. The patio is quite large however. Anyway, it will be packed in there and busy 100%. We had to stand around a bit and steal some tables together but it ended up working out. The service was very good, I would guess the kitchen is too small to keep up with the volume of orders so have to be patient. I got the reuben one night, honestly it was really good. Got a pizza the next night which was just OK, but I have high pizza standards. Would I order it again, ya probably, it was good value. My buddy got a steak he said it was fine but it looked like it was cooked perfectly. I didn't try the breakfast at all, had pizza leftovers hah. Now the golf, a point of contention in these reviews. To be fair all the courses were in great shape all around. Several tee boxes were kinda beat up and in need of levelling here and there. Weekend warriors were busy tearing trenches, with driver divots lol .... maybe more sand boxes for those? The greens were actually all very good, everything putted a decent speed, not overly tricky. The fountains was probably the nicest looking and maintained, fastest greens, wider fairways. The Swampfire was a bit tight but maybe the easiest of the courses although there are some forced layups here and there. Reflections was pretty tight in spots, maybe the most difficult with the elevations, maybe the slower of the greens. Monarch was decent, tee shots seemed fair. Some people commented on bunkers. Ya there are quite a few and very large. It had been raining quite a bit so not sure if they rake them regularly or not, but none were raked while we were there. BUT. They were all well filled and deep, the sand is kinda rocky tho, and now that I think of it I don't recall a bunker shot in 4 rounds. Beauty eh. My reccommendation, agree to rake and place if your ball goes in. Pace of play, hard to say. Not fast. It might creep up to 5 hours on the weekend, I wasnt really paying attention. I'd say 4 hours 30 is the quickest youll do. Some of our group was pretty slow, there are rangers but I doubt anyone was asked to pick up the pace. And ya, some of our group should have been asked. Beverage carts are excellent, you will see them often. Might be the best beverage cart service that I can recall now that I dwell on it. Cheers. There is also a hut out there as well with snacks and such, it's kinda criss crossed with 2 or 3 of the courses. The driving range was decent altho beat up. Plenty of balls down there
This place is great for golf outings. Well organized and enough courses to play. Would like to see a shirt course for groups to play or a putting course. Range needs updating for better practice and greens overall need to be thinned out. Courses are very playable and I imagine that’s why the conditions are what they are as they are good but not great.
Probably our 15th time there. Courses are in great shape and food and bar staff much improved. Food was great. Special shout out to Roach and I think Jim for helping in a medical situation. They went above and beyond the call of duty!!! Bar manager was great in allowing us to use their phone. It's the same story though. They say they have improved their cell and internet service. Many of us still have to do business on our annual trip. This is the last place you want to go for that. It's a topic of conversation every year. Time to get into the 21st century Garland. Thankfully our medical needs occurred at the lodge, because we wouldn't have been able to contact anyone. I have business associates that would like to have events at your facility, but select other locations because of your lack of cell and internet. Sad that this multi million dollar beautiful facility is so behind the times.
I don't know if there is any place I'd rather be spending my Memorial Day weekend. We just completed our 3rd Annual Golf trip here and somehow we had even more fun than we did last year. Roach, director of security, was great and accommodating. He has a great singing voice and an even greater dog. The staff there is absolutely amazing. Sarah, Andrew, Ashley, Tiffany, Shelby, Amy, and everyone else deserves a raise for putting up with my friends and I this weekend. Food is great, carts are nice, pool and sauna are refreshing. Rangers are all cool and understand that drinking is part of the game. We'll be back 100%. The only thing I think needs improvement are the closet doors. May need to be inspected for their structural integrity.
Had a blast golfing Swampfire with a large group of friends. One of our guys got lost as it’s a large place but Roach and his security team located him in just 11 minutes! Saved us a whole bunch of stress so we could continue on with our day, thank you Roach!
I would like to thank Sarah Kolb, Roach, Tracy, and the entire staff at the Garland Resort. They were all amazing, and made our weekend destination wedding an amazing experience. Hats off to the chefs, for the fabulous food! Bar staff, Server’s , Housekeeping, Maintenance, Grounds, Etc., you guys rock! I would definitely recommend a Winter Wedding at the Garlands.
We went to Garland on our 33rd anniversary weekend. Booked or room in advance. Michigan had no snow since after Christmas. The night before we left it had snowed through the night. By the time we arrived in Lewiston they had about four inches on the ground and it was just gorgeous. The trees and forest around the area is old growth large pines with all the snow just hanging on the branches and limbs. When checking in at the desk I met a pleasant fellow by the name of Roach that mingled with the guests to make sure all was well with your stay. All of the staff was excellent and more than friendly. Room was clean and comfortable. Food and drinks were top notch. Enjoyed a horse drawn sleigh ride on Saturday evening. The coachman was knowledgeable of the grounds and surrounding area. We would highly recommend a stay at Garland Resort. We’ll definitely go back!!!
We originally booked for the Nibble and Nosh package, but because there was no snow we did Fish Camp instead. We had a BLAST! Everything was done so well and everyone that works there is amazing!! Sarah really went out of her way to accommodate us; Larry was our personal guide; and Roach was super helpful. I would definitely recommend this place for a winter getaway!
I was booked to attend a group trip in June of 2022 and unfortunately tested positive with COVID a few days prior to the trip. I contacted Garland to let them know as I did not want to infect their staff or other customers. I had already paid a deposit, which I did not expect back but a staff member contacted me telling me I had to pay the remainder of the balance for my stay. I explained that it does not seem fair as I did the correct thing by not exposing the virus to any staff members or customers but I paid anyhow and asked to speak to the GM. When speaking to the GM, I mentioned that I did not require a full refund but maybe a voucher for 18 holes would be nice. He agreed to this but after 3 different follow-ups I never received anything. I will never golf there based on my experience.

1.5 hours to get served. Waitress was good but apparently she did not have the ear of whoever was guiding who got served. We had a table of 20. Food when we finally got it was good. We were thinking we should make them wait 1.5 hours before we payed them. By the way if you want a shot of Tito's on the course current price is 9$ a shot. Just did not want you to be surprised.
Was very very disappointed in the course conditions. Played all 4 courses, Fountains clearly in best shape. All bunkers across all 4 courses not maintained, broken rakes, but whats the point of a rake, if the place isn't even tending to them. Place was a zoo with the most beer consumed I've seen in a long time. Thankfully the Restaurant has great help like Ashley that made the several days there eating fun, and she should get a raise ! The cabins, seriously. 4 beds, so 4 people, and a coffee machine that has 3 pods for 4 people ? Are you kidding me ? Com'n people !
Stayed in the 500s cabins. Plenty of room for the 4 of us and seating as well. Starters we're very courteous and got our large golf group of 40 off on time. Everything's going great until I find out I lost my phone. Everyone working at the resort was great about taking my information and helping find my phone. I want to give a big shout out to the head of security Mr. Roach. He was able to find my phone and delivered it right to our cabin. Many thanks.
The golf courses are still very pretty but the lodge is showing its' age. We've stayed here 3 or 4 times and are noticing items such as rusty shower doors, sinks that don't drain, windows that don't open, woodwork that needs re-staining, mouse droppings, etc. Just starting to feel a tad run down. P.S., internet service is spotty, no cell service.
My family of 4 rented one of the two bedroom cottages for the July 4th weekend. We were looking at using the location as a base to lay our head and have breakfast at. The people at check were very kind and helpful. The set up of the cabin was perfect for what we were looking for. All was fine until we got inside. The floor and carpet was disgusting. If I had an infant I would not have allowed them to crawl on the carpet which was heavily stained. There was a gas stove, but we had to buy a lighter to get it to work. The upstairs bathroom toilet was barely functional and took forever to fill. You could not take 2 showers at the same time and if you showered at night your spent the next 2 hours listening to the banging of the hot water tank. For $500 a night you would hope for a clean and functioning location or at least afford new carpet or floorings.
