Good Sichuan food and dessert. I like their mango pomelo sago drink and milk pudding.

Light Cantine is by far the most authentic Sichuan restaurant in the Metro Detroit area. Ever since traveling through parts of Asia, I’ve had a deep craving for true Sichuan cuisine and that signature mala flavor—and I finally found it here. The food is spicy, bold, and packed with flavor.

While the service isn’t quite on the same level as the food, it’s still good overall. I might have expected a bit more of the traditional Asian hospitality, but that’s a small detail compared to how incredible the dishes are.

My favorites so far are the Chengdu Stir-Fried Beef, Stir-Fried Cabbage with Chilis, and the Dry Pot Shrimp. I always ask for them extra spicy—it’s worth it.

Overall, Light Cantine has become my favorite ethnic restaurant in the area, and I can’t recommend it enough to anyone who loves authentic Sichuan flavors.

Our group of 12 had a wonderful lunch at Light Cantine last week. They have a huge menu with both Cantonese and Szechuan dishes (among others), and that can sometimes be a warning sign that the food would not be authentic. Turns out they have a Cantonese chef and a Szechuan chef. Both are there on the weekends but take turns during the week (call ahead to double check the schedule). We ordered 9 dishes to share family style, and every single dish was delicious. Each person had their favorite, but the roasted duck (not pictured), pork belly with taro, fish with pickled mustard green, and sauté intestine were some of my favorites. The service by Stephanie was wonderful and efficient, and the bill came out to be less than $20 pp before tip. Highly recommended!

Mixed bag here. One time we went and had some great chicken and good fried rice, authentic with solid service. Another time, they had only a single new part time employee working, and it was terrible all around. Hopefully that was the exception because the first time I’d have recommended it stronger.

Excellent Chinese food. Menu includes some traditional dishes along with familiar options as well. Dishes are served family style which is great for trying different foods.

After a meal next door, my wife and I stopped by Light Cantine for a refresher and dessert.

Their menu features authentic Cantonese and Sichuan items — the 麻辣燙 (mala tang) looked amazing and is on my list for next time. I had the passion fruit lemonade, which was bright and refreshing, while my wife enjoyed the hot black herbal soup (燒仙草) — rich, comforting, and absolutely delicious.

Great spot for authentic flavors and a cozy finish to any meal. Can’t wait to come back and try more.

We went to this place due to video we saw in Instagram. I was kinda disappointed with their Mala Tang. There was not a lot of choices and the choices in the fridge is not appetizing. We ordered other stuff as well like pork belly in preserved vegetables which is too sweet for my liking, Braised beef brisket is okay for the price, the price is too small, dimsum was good. The place looks nice and clean.

The place was pretty empty both times I went. The first time, the server was nice and knowledgeable but the second I went there was a different server and she was unfriendly and didn't really know anything. I guess you just have to get lucky lol. The place was cute and had lots of decorations but it looked a bit unkempt. The food was decent overall, but the rice was really mushy and tasted really cheap...the boba was really good though. They probably hawe better dessert dishes than their normal entrees. Speaking of entrees, they have a Cantonese chef and a Sichuan chef and it seems like they're not always nhere at the same time since the menu is split into Cantonese dishes and Sichuan dishes and the Sichuan chef wasn't there on my first visit and the Cantonese chef wasn't there on my second visit 🤣

As someone with limited knowledge of traditional Chinese food, I found the food flavorful and menu offering EXCITING variety. Looking forward to trying more items and dining in the modern, bright restaurant.
