This restaurant is a hidden treasure. Being a chef myself, I have very high standards and seldom does a restaurant meet, let alone exceed them. If the food doesn’t deliver, nothing else about the restaurant can redeem it. This was one of the best meals I’ve had in a while and it was even more impressive because I ordered it as a takeout meal! The steak and Michigan Cherry burger were perfectly cooked medium-rare and sourced from locally raised grass-fed beef! Even the calamari was cooked to perfection, not chewy or tough from over cooking (which is very easy to do especially when it’s packaged for carry out). The walleye breading was still crispy! Everything was thoughtfully packaged for transport with plenty of condiments. Even the balsamic glazed brussel sprouts were the perfect texture with the right amount of bite without being flaccid and overcooked. I wanted to bring my father a special birthday meal while he was in a nursing home and had to travel too far to make it myself. I was so grateful to Public House for making it so I could bring him a chef quality meal for his birthday. I look forward to ordering from them again and trying other menu items!

I've been here twice now. Absolutely worth the drive every time. This place is absolutely Hidden Gem status, especially if you're gluten-free. From that perspective it's a dream come true.
Check it out. Cozy lo-fi diner atmosphere.

The food and drinks were aMAZing! I had the fig and feta omelet, and my partner had the shrimp & grits for our meals. We each had 2 different cocktails (4 overall), all of which were delicious. Our server was lovely; friendly and polite, and never pushy. We live out of the way, but will consider traveling down to Monroe now just to eat here.

Favorite restaurant in Monroe. I typically go for breakfast but I went for dinner the other night and the staff were mopping the floors while there were several customers eating. I don’t think this should be done when customers when are present in the restaurant.
Asked for a recommendation while in town and ended up here and we are so glad. My husband, myself, and two boys are our entire meals. The food was so fresh, the staff was all friendly and the owner, George, came and chatted with us. I love that they use locally sourced ingredients and they have a seasonal menu. I will drive 40 minutes from home for another meal from Public House. 10/10 recommend!

Restaurantji Recommends
I have traveled all over the world and lived in NYC so I know what good service is. I have given this place SO MANY chances because there aren't very many nice restaurants in Monroe. But the numerous experiences of rude behavior from the front of house staff and waitstaff has pushed me and my family to no longer being able to recommend or patronize this place. The owner has a SERIOUS problem. He has either been hiring the wrong people or staff training is not what it should be. The food is overrated too, but the main issue is the utterly reprehensible behavior from the staff, INCLUDING the manager on SEVERAL occasions. We spend a lot of money here and have always just been looking for a stress free experience. But the staff somehow always manages to be rude. It is often in the form of what would be considered micro aggressions (not racial or discriminatory). Just snotty for no reason. It's just been a preponderance of snide attitudes. Why would I spend money on a Big Boy that pretends to be a gastropub where they don't appreciate my business, when I could go somewhere like Culvers, spend 60% less money, receive food that is nearly the same quality and the staff is genuine and friendly. Then, the two times I complained to the manager and gave specific constructive criticism, she was passive aggressive and defended her staff instead of hearing what I was trying to tell her.

Stopped on a Wednesday for lunch it was pretty busy when we arrived. Lots of people in this downtown area for a weekday so I wouldnt come here if you have time constraints.
Cassandra provided GREAT service for being sat 4-5 new tables at once. She was very nice & had recommendations when we had questions. This place is a little pricey but you can tell the quality of the food is higher as well. Everything was delicious besides we thought the grilled cheese could have been more melted & crispy.
As a restaurant manager myself I would have liked to see a little more teamwork on the floor especially when one server is getting sat multiple times in a row, someone else could at least get drinks to help out, plenty of other workers werent busy during our visit.
All in all we will definitely be back!

Amazing food! Fresh and flavorful! Locally sourced ingredients! Owner came out and spoke to us and many other tables during our visit - a very well run restaurant! Very busy on a Saturday afternoon, but as I saw the food coming out of the kitchen I knew it would be well worth the wait!
