I would not recommend booking at this venue, Josie’s in Parchment, MI. The owner, Denise (I believe to be her name) is very rude, disrespectful and inconsiderate. 0/10Many people have spoke on how disrespectful and rude she is to the people booking her spaces and the event decorators as well! I was 3rd party booked to do a balloon arch for a couples engagement party this past Saturday. I was booked the day before due to them being canceled on. Fast forward to the day of the event. I was informed that set up time started at 4:30, and the event started at 8. The bride to be was let in at 4:35 and I was able to arrive by 4:40 and upon arrival, the bride to be informed me she was only given an hour to set up and at that time I let her know that this would take a little over an hour to complete. After telling her that she said she talked with the venue owner (I believe her name to be Denise) previously asking if she would be able to get more time for set up because she knew an hour wouldn’t be enough time for everything she needed to do and even asked to pay for extra time. She let me know she would try again but that after all the money she paid and put into this event, that the venue owner wasn’t being nice about the situation and didn’t sound like she would be flexible with the time at all.
By 5:25 the venue owner Denise walked in and my encounter along with the bride to be and the woman who booked me and was helping with set up was very unpleasant.
She walked in and seen we were working on finishing up what we were doing and instantly started speaking to us rudely and as if we were children.
She was asked if she would be using a certain table for catering and her response was “What do you think” they stated they were asking because they were setting stuff up on that table and she said “I shouldn’t have to tell you, you see I’m looking at you” and continued to speak in a condescending tone. first red flag 🚩
She stood there staring at us rushing to finish up what we’re were doing and kept asking “So what are y’all finna do, y’all gotta hurry up, I said you only have an hour, you’re going to have to leave this like this”
This was not my event nor did this venue owner hire me so I wasn’t speaking to her at all until she started speaking to me. It wasn’t even 5:30 yet as I was finishing blowing up and adding the last few rows of balloons to the arch she asked me “how long are you going to be” I told her I would need about 10 more minutes to set the arch up around the backdrop. She proceeded to antagonize me and tell me that she knows “professional balloon artists” that would’ve been had this done, that I shouldn’t have been blowing up balloons at the venue and it should’ve been done before arrival.
I let her know that I have never heard of someone only getting one hour to set up an event and that balloons can take time, (I also let her know that something like this could actually take WAY longer than the 1 hour and 10mins that it took me) while telling her I don’t have the means to transport this many balloons in my vehicle and I do all balloons at the venue. She continued to taunt me saying “well I know people who blow them all up and transport them in bags, you don’t have a hatchback, those would even fit in a car”
My responses back were very stern with her as she was being completely disrespectful and rude to us.
By 5:30 she was telling us that she was about to cut the lights off on us and continuing to taunt me. Was going to subway but out of the corner of my eye I spotted Josie’s. So decided to try something different. Got a hamburger and mashed potatoes and a chicken sandwich. Both were delicious. Also got potato salad It’s to die for. Definitely will be back while I am working here.
