Waited along time for food which is really a bummer and kills it for me. Most of the food we ordered was pretty good. In their defense ,guess they had some of their staff leave early that night.
Phenomenal food & fantastic service. Had the blackened whitefish, so flavorful, flaky & fresh. Loaded baked potato was caramelized goodness. My waiter was a Rockstar! Cool atmosphere too. Great stop while snowmobiling ir any season.
Our family had a great experience dining at the Thunder Bay Inn. There were 7 adults and a 1.5 year old child in our party and the restaurant was extremely kid friendly. The owner offered a ride-on toy for our son to play with, and thankfully all other guests were kind and very tolerant of a busy but well behaved toddler! The staff did a great job and the food came out in a timely manner.
My wife and I couldn't have asked for a better accomadation experience! Great inn keepers, lovely local, historical significance, great jumping off point to hiking and natural areas and a wonderful restaurant to boot. We mainly visited the Thunder Bay Inn because of its significance to the Anatomy of a Murder film/book, but we were pleasantly surprised to find something even more special! Yes it's old and doesn't have all of the mod cons of your usual hotels but it makes up for it with its charm. We couldn't recommend staying here more. If what you're looking for is a retreat into the past, this is the place to stay!
Went for Dinner here 2 weeks in a row, as we were checking out the Fall colors! Both times enjoyed the food!! Friday fish fry night was busy, but waitress was great!! Definitely will stop by again!!
Went for lunch on a busy Saturday. Little bit of a wait for food, but it was an ok lunch in a nice historical place. Their ties to the movie Anatomy of a Murder are on display, and they play the movie on a large screen on repeat with subtitles, so that's neat.
Good pizza 🍕
Consistantly good food. (6.5 out of 10)
This place is wonderful, the food is top notch for a great price and the decor is nostalgic and makes you feel like you’re transported back in time.
On our anniversary we took a short trip from our home in Marquette to Big Bay to dine at the Thunder Bay Inn. The service was excellent and the food very good. I ordered a New York strip stake my wife White Fish. Only issue was the stake had a lot of gristle and difficult to cut. But it tasted great! There was one other issue, the TV behind us had Anatomy of a Murder playing. My mother wanted to travel to Marquette during the filming to be a extra but could not make it and I had never seen the film start to finish, so when we returned home I had to rent it. Fun to watch and see sights as they were when I was a child. If you are in Big Bay and need to enjoy a great meal, please do check this place out.

They have done amazing things up there with their menu, fish fry was great, I didn't have it but everyone Raves about the prime rib
The Thunder Bay Inn is such a unique and special place to stay—we absolutely love the historic charm and how much of the history is preserved. The owners, Sue and Mark, are fantastic and so accommodating, which makes the experience even better. Each of the rooms is decorated uniquely, and everything is always clean and comfortable.
We also love the bar and restaurant—Shelby is a fantastic server and always takes great care of us. The Inn also hosts fun events, which add to the experience. Anytime we’re in the Upper Peninsula, we always stay here and have the best time. This is truly a must-visit!

We ate in the restaurant. Great fish! Service was a little slow, but food made up for it!
Our electrical service skipped a beat and the instapot roast was not done in time for dinner. We ordered the best in town pizza and were pleasantly surprised with the time of preparation and service. There were 6 staff members there to wait in customers. The pizza was one of the best with loaded topping and a chewy crust. So glad we ordered our pizza from Thunder Bay. Thank you for such a good pizza experience. We look forward to dining at Thunder Bay Inn.
