I love ice cream.
One fateful day, I was made aware that I am lactose intolerant. I won’t scar anyone with how I found out.
I was devastated that soft serve wouldn’t be an option. I can tolerate a little cheese here and there or desserts with lactaid. I tried soft serve near me, hoping I can handle it. I couldn’t. I was absolutely shredded and devastated.
That was when my friend recommended I look at the menu here. I had loved the ice cream here as a kid, but would never had expected a vegan menu in this area. I usually find that in a big city that has lots of allergen options.
I was floored. I have never met such a great vegan menu in ice cream flavors. They can do anything. They don’t have a basic chocolate and vanilla option to appease people who are here with others. The ice cream is crafted well, thought out, and creamy.
Even having moved fairly far for ice cream, I make my way out here just for it. I try to get here when I’m close.
I got so excited to eat the whipped cream (also vegan) that I forgot to get a picture of the beautiful swirl before I ate it. It’s full and beautiful and chunky and creamy.

Always a good time to get all or any type of frozen dairy and or non- dairy ice creams, shakes, sundaes, smoothies, boba teas with pearls of any flavor. Way better than coldstone, and its helping the local economy! Always a sweet treat, in any summer time weather! I personally love the strawberry shortcake cheees cake sundae and milkshake. Great with family or to bring your person as the prices are great! This was my third time this year, ill be a regular as im in the community!

Had the Superman waffle cone and tried the dole whip orange and pineapple cone. Both were an outstanding mix of flavors!
My family of 5 visits Dairy Whip frequently and we always have a great experience. The staff is friendly and the area is clean. We have used the drive through as well as the walk up service. Walk up is usually faster if the drive through line has more than 4-5 vehicles waiting, so we prefer that option when the weather is nice. Our family of five has different dietary needs. Three of us avoid dairy for health reasons and we have enjoyed Dairy Whips abundant vegan options. We visit many ice cream shops in Michigan while camping and haven't found another place that offers as many vegan choices as Dairy Whip! My young son has an anaphylactic peanut and tree nut allergy. We are aware of the risk we take when we allow him to eat anything outside our home and we always carry two epipens at all times. Dairy Whip has numerous signs warning of cross contamination and risks associated for individuals with allergies. I have spoken with the staff to discuss what maybe the safest option for anyone with nut allergies. After learning more about their menu and ice cream making process we have decided to only allow him to order ice cream from the vanilla or chocolate soft serve machine. We always make his nut allergy known before placing the order and the staff kindly wears gloves to make it. He usually requests it on a cone or a cone on top, which we are also comfortable with. We do not allow him to have any extra toppings or dips due to the beey high risk of cross contamination. We often bring a baggie of crushed Oreos from home to sprinkle on ourselves before he enjoys it. Dairy Whip is pet friendly! The staff loves to see pets! They offer doggie ice cream treats, too! We will continue to recommend Dairy Whip to our friends and family!
Vegetarian options: Vegan soft serve and hand packed option. Some options maybe dairy free, but still include egg so if you are a strict vegan always inquire. Staff is knowledgeable and helpful! They have went out of their way to double check ingredients when I have inquired.
Kid-friendliness: Lots of fun options for kids including the cookie monster sundae and superman hand packed. The superman stack is yummy, too...but quite large for a child!
A mom and pop ice cream shop that offers excellent vegan/dairy free options!!! I’ve been missing peanut butter shakes ever since I had to cut out dairy from my diet and I couldn’t find them anywhere - but dairy whip has them. Prices are reasonable, too.

I was pretty excited to find an ice cream shop (Dairy Whip in Redford) near my house that offers vegan and non-dairy options since my son is allergic to dairy. We tried it out last week and after we had our treats he started going into anaphylactic shock. I called the ice cream shop and asked if they were sure they served us non-dairy ice cream. The manager flippantly replied that they use the same scoops for regular, non-dairy and vegan varieties and they can't guarantee cross-contamination. My opinion is that if a place advertises vegan of non-dairy options, there should be some effort to ensure there is no chance of cross-contamination. Luckily my son was ok after a couple doses of Benadryl and a trip to the emergency room. We're sticking to Cold Truth from now on.
