My wife and I were hungry on a flight home so I jumped on the airplane wifi and did a search near Metro Airport. Leonardo's popped up as #1 around and now we know why. My wife is Italian/Sicilian and isn't one for sloppily made Italian food. She is also willing to try new places. She ordered the Spaghetti and Meatballs. The sauce was perfectly seasoned and the meatball soft and full of flavor. I opted for the Eggplant Parmesan after being assured by our server it is a popular dish. Thick slices without being overshadowed by too much breading. The skin was not overcooked, leaving a nice texture. Did I mention our server? Of course I did. Jacqueline was fantastic! Knew when to pop in and when not to pop in. Fun and funny, but 100% a pro. Give this joint a try. We will be back, this time for pizza.

Leonardo’s opened in 1984. And you can tell. The decor is reminiscent of a mid 90’s Olive Garden, carpeted floors, cherry wood accents, just dated and worn out.

Service was acceptable. More attentiveness to beverages would be nice. As well as a system of knowing who gets what at a large table instead of the table bickering back and forth as to what was ordered. Unorganized and poorly trained.

Now let’s talk about the food. Is this recipe book also from 1984? If you’re going to serve under seasoned inauthentic cuisine don’t charge me premium prices.

My wife ordered “Pollo Simpici” or something like that “Breaded cutlet with bruschetta” would have been a more apt description. $22.00 for a chicken cutlet and a tomato salad on top? No pasta? Seriously come on. You’re talking pennies to give a customer a complete meal.

My stuffed shells were underwhelming the meat sauce tasted like tomatoes and sugar absolutely no herbaciousness, no depth of flavor. Plan “bread knots” with no butter, no oil, no cheese.

The Cesar dressing had the consistency of Mayo and was absolutely no a true Cesar dressing. Probably Sysco premade pre bottled. Again premium prices for subpar food.

Fire the chef toss the menu, start again. FRESH food FRESH ingredients. Italian food isn’t hard, it’s peasant food. It’s comfort food. This is a shame.

Leonardo's- A Hidden Gem Near DTW!

If you're anywhere near Detroit Metro Airport and craving authentic Italian cuisine, Leonardo’s Italian Grille is an absolute must. From the moment you walk in, the warm, welcoming atmosphere sets the tone for a memorable dining experience. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the food they serve.

The menu is a celebration of Italian classics—think rich, creamy Alfredo, perfectly crisped pizzas, and house-made pastas that taste like they came straight from Nonna’s kitchen.

Whether you're a local or just passing through, Leonardo’s is the kind of place that makes you want to come back—even if it means planning a layover just to eat here again. Bravo, Vito, Kate and the entire staff. You’ve earned every bit of your stellar reputation.

Great spot for a quick bite on your way to or from the airport.

The martini I had was amazing! Best part of the dinner. Had the chicken Alfredo and the sauce was as thin as water and way too much, looked like soup when I got it.

What a family traditional restaurant! Food and atmosphere were both amazing and quantity of food was so surprisingly delicious!

Food was good. Service was great. I didn’t like them adding the tip to the bill before they gave it to me. I would have tipped more but they added what they wanted first. Not sure if I will go back because of that.

We happened to go at a very busy time. Service was quite slow to start but our server made every effort to ensure we were happy. Pizza was quite good. Worth a return.

Potato chips encrusted fried walleye was very disappointing. None of the fish flavors came out and it really needs a side vegetable or something to go with it.

Tasted like twice cooked potato chips and nothing else.

The caprese salad was a bit better but the tomatoes could have been fresher and the balsamic glaze should have been vinegar and olive oil

Atmosphere was nice enough. Art deco style tin metal ceilings and old jazz playing.

Server was very accommodating with custom menu options but a bit forgetful.

Hump Day is an excellent reason to enjoy a good meal. Leonardo's was a great selection. I enjoyed their Chicken Marsala with a side of spaghetti with meatsauce. The meal was wonderful and flavorful. Great food and service. Very generous serving sizes.

Terrible experience. They ask if you if want soup or salad with your meal. I chose soup it was not hot. Then I received main course it was cold I don't complain much so I didn't say anything we get the bill there's an upcharge for soup that we weren't informed about ask the waitress about it she told us that the owner tells them not to tell people that there's an up charge for soup. f**k this place. won't be back

We went to this restaurant based on a recommendation from the hotel desk clerk. It did not disappoint! Next time we are in the area, it will be a must on our list to revisit. The pizza was awesome!!
