The food was excellent, as was the service. (Thank you, Stephanie.) I highly recommend the Norwegian Trout and believe it to be among the best, if not the best, trout that I've ever had. My wife had the Parmesan Whitefish, which included a generous helping of caviar. We will definitely be eating there again during on a future trip to the area.

Everyone was extremely nice and no problem with the service staff. Sadly, the food was sub par and the restaurant as a whole should have been cleaner, given it was not super busy- 6:30pm on a Sunday evening. I ordered the pasta with white wine sauce, asparagus, broccoli and roasted tomatoes. It was definitely was NOT white sauce. Seemed like a can of stewed tomatoes was poured over the pasta with some bits of broccoli mixed in. Very strange and not tasty. We were expecting a little bit "fancier" of a place based on the menu and prices, but it was certainly not that. Probably best to stick with the "tavern fare" portion of their menu, as I am guessing this is where they excel-

I was pretty disappointed that the hostess or waiter didn't get the note that it was our 10 year wedding anniversary and our first trip away from our kids ever when I made the dinner reservation. What is the point of being able to put in special notes if it's not going to be acknowledged.

Really incredible vibe inside. They've done a great job making the space comfortable and the wait staff is phenomenal! Food was incredible but huge portions lol so be prepared to have leftovers!

It was a beautiful day to be on the patio. The mimosas and Bloody Mary's were great and everyone loved their breakfast . My mom truly enjoyed her birthday brunch at Planks

Excellent food and service from the appetizers (calimari and brussel sprouts) to the crispy cauliflower fried rice. Yummy. I'll be back, thank you.

Lovely atmosphere. Service wa slow, even for us not being in a hurry. Had empty drinks. Have always enjoyed this restaurant (3rd time here) but this time food and service not good. Won't be returning.

First the positive. Server was busting her tail and was friendly. The whitefish was really good (the couscous was so bland) as was the Herb and Loaf appetizer.
Now for the reason we will not be going back and do not recommend.
I ordered the Surf and Turf. It came out not what I requested to be cooked. Was undercooked. It finally came out. Manager dropped it, never said a word and left. Well now it was so overcooked it was inedible. The shrimp was not seasoned at all. It could’ve been at least cooked and some garlic butter, but it was like they took the cocktail shrimp and warmed it up. I had to pour salt and pepper on it just to be able to eat it. The potatoes were good until I found a potato with a stem sticking out of it. How hard is it to clean your potatoes?
I told the server just about the steak. I didn’t even mention the potatoes. She came back and said the manager was taking it off the bill. We never saw the manager, he never came over to apologize, nothing.

This was so disappointing because we saw so many good reviews and we went there because we had gotten married the day before and wanted a nice dinner. We have plans on dessert and everything and decided to just go ahead and go. We didn’t want to take the chance of the dessert being just as bad. I think this restaurant needs to work on how to cook steaks, how to clean your potatoes, and how to season your food. They also need teach their managers how to handle customer service. I say that as someone who has been in the hospitality industry for over 20 years. Do better!

Our first time in Michigan. We chose Plank's Tavern on the Water for the location and the description of the food. Unfortunately, left much to be desired. They were ill prepared for the holiday and were obviously short staffed. Would not take walk ins and reservations were required. We hung out at another event on the premises until our reservation time and we still were told to wait. We could see empty dirty tables, no one clearing them. Had my husband not gotten up 15 minutes past our reservation time, our table would have been given to another couple that had just walked in. Hostess and manager did not have good communication or coordination, the hostess was not friendly and had the manager not been upfront, would have given our table to the other couple (why?) Took time to get our order in once we did sit and when the food came, we had to ask for silverware because the table had not been properly cleaned or set up for us (evidenced by the crumbs on the bench, cloth napkin on the floor and another napkin tucked between the back pillows on the bench). Nevertheless, we had 1 night so we wanted to make the best of it. Drinks over priced, food (trout and whitefish) dry and dish tasteless (barely ate half and that's only because it was close to 10pm and everything else was closed). The server was over worked, apologizing and complaining in the same breath. Bathrooms were dirty, place was as chaotic as a bad Chef Ramsey makeover. This place would not make the cut. Would not recommend this be anyone's first or only choice.

The food was lacking in seasoning and not cooked the way it should have been. The shrimp was boiled and had no seasoning, steak was underseasoned and first undercooked and then grossly overcooked, the potatoes weren't properly cleaned and underseasoned, the couscous wasn't flavored at all. The whitefish was the only thing that was actually good. The manager did take my wife's meal off the bill because of her complaints but he never came to our table to apologize or anything. This was a meal we had been highly anticipating as it was to celebrate getting married the day before and it was such a disappointing letdown. We originally planned to order dessert but opted not to for fear of it being as bland and unappetizing as the rest of the food. I had such high hopes for this restaurant after browsing the menu online but am left wishing we had chosen a different place to go. Our waitress was friendly and did the best she could but she seemed to be stretched thing with too many tables at once. I don't think we'd ever return if we were to come back to town

The restaurant was nice with an outdoor dining area looking over a small port and drawbridge. The restaurant had a fair amount of boat activity. The menu is adequate with several options. Unfortunately the kitchen did overcook the steak. If you want medium it might be best to go medium rare. (I noticed another review that mentioned this). The waitstaff was top notch.

Have a lovely breakfast on the terrace. We had a reservation for 10 AM and it was very nice by the time we left the place was really getting full. I had to basic breakfast was very good. Service was great and it's just a lovely area to sit and look at the boats go by.

This is my second trip to planks and everything I've tried has been very good. Staff is friendly and the place has a great vibe, perfect for a dinner date or casual dining. The pretzel is a must try for an appetizer, even though it is $25. Yes that's a lot for apretzel, but it's huge and could easily serve as an app for 4-6 people.
