Can't go to St. Joe without stopping at our favorite diner. My son always gets breakfast and raves about it. My husband has tried a variety of things and has always been satisfied. I LOVE the olive burger so much that I only order it when I go - haven't tried anything else there!

Good basic breakfast place. Friendly service. Decent B&G. Bacon was too thin for my liking but lots of places are that way. Kept my coffee filled. Entertained with the "old boys club" gathered for breakfast on a Friday morning. Will definitely go back.

(Some items were better than others.) (really nice and great staff!) (dated, but homey.)Solid experience at Thornton's Hometown Cafe! Located downtown Saint Joseph, Michigan, this restaurant reminds me of an old school cafe where all the locals hang. Great experience! The food was okay. I tried the biscuits and gravy, chili, grits, and one of the scrambles. The chili was my favorite, and the other menu items were okay. I do not recommend the grits as they were not cooked at all.The service was amazing! There is really great staff that helped us with the menu and kept the water cups full! I love their spirit! The atmosphere was okay. I enjoyed the pictures in the restaurant but the restaurant appeared dingy. However, this restaurant is a place where locals come to eat a solid dish, so it doesn't matter so much of the appearance.Overall, it was an okay experience at Thornton's Hometown Cafe!Vegetarian options: There were some vegetarian options.Parking: There was difficulty finding parking right out front. You may have to park a few blocks down. In the spring and summer, it's worse.Kid-friendliness: Kid-friendly restaurant!Wheelchair accessibility: Nice size restaurant for wheelchair accessibility.

this could be a great breakfast place BUT scrambled eggs are ALWAYS over cooked (dead n dry) as are sausage patties....no matter what we tell the waitress. cook needs to read up on how to cook perfect scrambled eggs, and why are patties hard burnt on outside ?? the bread selection for toast is excellent. pancake with bananas has plenty of bananas on top none inside. ask for butter or you get margarine...pancake syrup not real. prices are not cheap, but good if ingredients were real. it would not take much effort to be a 5 star !!

Thornton's Hometown Cafe, a place so hidden it makes you wonder if it's part of a government conspiracy or just shy. Stepping in here is like falling down a culinary rabbit hole into a world where breakfast is king and the clock always reads 'morning'. The food? Served hot enough to make you believe in miracles, or at least in the power of a good griddle. This joint is buzzing like a beehive on a caffeine kick, and the server? Friendlier than a politician in an election year. It's a true local gem, the kind you stumble upon and then can't stop bragging about, like discovering a secret society or a new planet. It's like a rite of passage into the realm of real breakfast. You don't just eat and leave; you become part of a tradition, an unspoken club of satisfied stomachs. Will we return? It's not a question, it's a certainty, like the sun rising or taxes. Thornton's isn't just a cafe; it's a breakfast odyssey.
