Mike's on the Water

Went by boat and was disappointed their signature burger (a cheeseburger with the cheese stuffed in the patty) is now only a Monday item. Otherwise, it's just a basic cheeseburger I can get anywhere. The service and atmosphere is fun in the marina but I came for the cheeseburger! The clam chowder was excellent though.

Mike's on the Water in Saint Clair Shores is a lovely spot with a fantastic outdoor setting. The view is great, and the atmosphere really leans into the nautical theme, which adds a nice touch. It’s often busy, especially on weekends, but that’s a testament to how popular it is in the area.

The food is good—solid, tasty options, and you can tell they take pride in what they serve. However, the service can be a bit hit or miss. It seems to depend a lot on who your waitress is. Some staff are really friendly and attentive, while others can be a little slower and may not always have answers if you ask about certain items on the menu.

Despite that, I’ve had a positive experience overall. It’s a place I’ll definitely continue to visit, as the vibe, food, and location make it worth it.

Service was great. Others in my group liked the Peggy's Punch and the smoked whitefish app. Little bit of a wait for an outside table, but we expected that on a sunny summer weekend early dinner.

We went with a group of 9. It's a cool place on the water with a nice vibe. For food, those that had the Lobster Roll said they were excellent, fish tacos were good, and Mike's Cuban Sandwich was a bit dry and bland. My biggest complaint was the lack of service. Not once was anyone's water glass refilled. There were plenty of open tables, yet it felt like we were being pushed to leave.

I had an incredibly upsetting experience at Mike on the Water. I had left my wallet there and called the day before — a staff member confirmed they had it. When I came back the next day to retrieve it, I was met by a man who turned out to be the owner. He was immediately aggressive and rude, telling me they didn’t have it, completely contradicting what I had been told.

I calmly tried to explain that I had spoken with someone, but he raised his voice, overtalked me, and even put his hand in my face while I was speaking. I truly don’t like to bring race into things, but I felt deeply uncomfortable and disrespected in a way that felt personal and unnecessary.

Thankfully, the kind waitress who had served me before came down and remembered me, which helped clear things up — but even then, the owner continued to speak over me as I tried to speak with her. I was only there to get my wallet, not cause a scene, and was met with shocking hostility for no reason.

I’ve never been treated so poorly by someone in a customer-facing role. This experience left me shaken and disappointed.

Place was packed but so worth it. Service was great food was great as well. Take your time to look around

Felt like a celebrity tonight...got to meet Mike! Got to see his museum...it's a total gem! Food was excellent as always! Amber was our server and she was great! Best clam chowder outside of New England!!

Great atmosphere. Perfect place to have a meal by the water. The Perch was very good, as was the Mike's Cheese burger. The house made chips are addicting!

Great white fish and lobster roll. Service was prompt,friendly, and courteous. I also have had the ribs and corned beef. Both wonderful. Makes it hard to choose. Will hate to see November but will be anxious for spring when it reopens.
