Quaint dive bar soon to be closed and remodeled. Vassar Bar is exactly what you expect a small town bar to be like: inexpensive and strong drinks, a bit rundown, quirky characters, a bartender that has been there for an eternity. We appreciated talking with the patrons and bartender and getting some scoop on the goings on. I hope the new owners keep the charm and character of the bar.

This place hasn't really changed in my lifetime. I appreciate that. On the rare occasion I make it home I often times end up here. On my last visit, the Coney Dog was terrific and the Onion rings were a lil blah... but onion rings are hit and miss everywhere. It was a gamble I took knowing they may not be for me. The server overheard me talking negatively about the onion rings and handled it like a consummate professional—to my embarrassment. On the spot, she asked me what was wrong with them and offered to make me something else. I declined, but I really appreciated the gesture. If the server ever sees this review, I'd like to let her know she's great, onion rings are a gamble, and thanks for being thoughtful and kind. It's rare to experience this level of hospitality on the east coast.

Delicious soup. The broccoli cheese soup was so delicious. The Monte Cristo sandwich was the best I have had in years. Smelly men’s restroom. Friendly service
